Finally did it...got a 2012!!

Well this week I decided to get rid of the 05' and get a new 2012 manual. It has been sometime since I have posted here, but I have a question regarding the H&S mini Maxx. I am planning on doing the deletes, but hate to give up on warranty (I have a buddy at Dodge so that should help). I'm looking to see if anyone knows if the tuner will set a hard fault in the Cummins ECU after the tuner is removed ie: putting the truck back to stock.

I have read something about the tuner setting the hour meter in the Cummins ECU back to 0. Does anyone know what is fact and fiction? In the 2012 diesel supplement owners manual it states it can detect use of programmers even after removal. I plan on keeping the power settings stock, but just want to delete EGR(electronically) and the DPF.

Everything I have read and anyone at the dealership I use said the programers leave traces in the ecm that someone that knows what they are looking for can see. As for the hour meter, I have not heard that.

Congrats!

Youre gonna love it.

Even though there are some around here that will try and convince you that you wont and its gonna cost you a billion dollars to just look at it and if you even touch it its going to explode.

If you program it it will set your key count back to zero. Even the Smarty is not untraceable. Very few people have major issues after deleting, and pending on the dealership you can still find some that will work with you.

If you have any questions just ask.

Congrats on the new rig! I'd get rid of the EGR cooler personally, its one less thing to go wrong with the truck and it cleans the engine bay up a ton. My buddie's 08' looks almost identical to my 04' under the hood with the deletes. I'm just waiting till I get out of trade school and for spring to come to do the deletes on mine (supposed to be close to -30*C here next week, I'll stay inside and keep warm instead)

Thanks for the feedback!

I work for Mercedes (factory) and have spent several years in the dealer, so I know how manufactures like to skip out on warranty if possible. I see most people have had good luck with deletes, and nobody seems to regret it.

I do miss the my 5.9, but I love the rest of my 12' especially The G56. My 05' had the 48re (I am a manual guy). I've only racked up 200 mile thus far, and of course the 6.7 still has all the crap on it.

My 08 was the first and last slushbox Ive ever owned or will own behind a diesel. If my wife could drive a stick, and they would put one in a Durango or Grand Cherokee Ida had one in it.

Delete that thing, slap a good clutch in it, turn the torque management off, and then see how much you grin.

You can just unplug the EGR for awhile to make sure the motor isn't a lemon before deleting it.

If it is something major it usually showes pretty early.

When you unplug the EGR, just ignore the warning light (it will stay on till you plug it back in). If and when you plug it back in, it will take several start-ups and driving to clear it and it will be like you never unplugged it.

How would unplugging the EGR give you any idea your motor is a lemon?

It wouldnt. But it would allow for better fuel economy while giving the new truck the shake down, in case, you know, it tosses a rod or transforms into a Decepticon or something.

Have you seen the pictures of the crud the EGR pumps back through the motor?

I'd unplug it and live with the check engine light. If you want to void your warranty and emissions rules then you can delete it completely. I'd probably put a few miles on it to make sure it isn't junk before voiding the warranty. Heck back in the day they only gave 12,000 mile warranties anyway.

Wasn't there a plug in programmer at one time that would shut off the check engine light after start up? I'd just hook something like that up and unplug the egr if it really bothered me.

Hey guys,
I havent been on here in a long time. Since i deleted my 07 it runs like a dream and i havent had no problems. A friend of mine just bought a 2012 and asked me to come over and help him delete it. Is the delete from 07 to 12 the same ? I told him i could help but if there is a major differance It would be nice to know before i get there. Ive read through countless forums and I see no differance but I havent looked under the hood of anything newer. Any info would be great. Thanks,
Ed
