I have an 11 with all the deletes should I be using the
exhaust brake to keep the turbo clean?

It's a good idea to use it.

Tom, use the EB much as possible, except in inclement weather when not towing.

Why not in inclement weather or when not towing? I turn mine on almost ever time I get into the truck. I've been wanting to do the mod that turns it EB on automaticly, but just have not had the time.

Don't want the rear to lock up on slick surfaces when running empty.

YES, if in tow mode it can down shift hard and break the tires loose.

I leave the exhaust brake on all the time, you will not break the rear tires loose on slick roads. It's not that effective.

I had it hit in tow haul mode on logging road and have me pucker pulling a loaded trailer. You want to be careful on wet, ice or muddy roads in winter loaded or unloaded. That kick down from third to second can make you tighten up.

With deletes and a Smarty Jr ME I found it's not as effective as it was stock. Not sure why though.

Something must be wrong with yours, mine is very strong with 15000lbs behind. Need to get a good load on my gooseneck to really try it out. Seems to work with the brake controller somehow and comes on much stronger when the brakes are applied hard

With my 08 it would downshift hard enough (4th to 3rd, and 3rd to 2nd) that it would chirp the back tires on occasion. Not many icy situations in South Louisiana, but I would NOT want to be running that thing in those situations.

The above are all valid reasons for manual transmission being the way to go for a working truck.

I control when and how "hard" my truck down shifts, look at my signature.
