auto to manual swap
ok, some of yall know we did a swap on my truck to a manual trans. Lucus from East Texas came out to albuquerque and spent a few days.
my truck- 2011 crew cab 3500, auto, 4x4 (now a dually also)
Lucus truck- 2012 single cab 2500 manual
swap went pretty easy for the most part. The biggest thing is that we needed to get the 2012 to shift the auto. going from auto to manual is the easy part. manual to auto is a headache if you don't have patients.
my truck BARELY fit on the lift
got the auto out and truck off the lift so Lucus could pull right up onto when he pulled into the driveway

removed the shifter for the auto from mine. very straight forward to do. only thing we had to do was tap the holes for his column to accept the shifter. everything was plug and play. I did however require to jump 2 wires from my harness to release the key from the ignition
clutch pedal mounting is already there in all of the trucks. just need to unpin the pedal and install into mine

Traded steering wheel shrouds
My buddy Sammy making short work of the console to accept the shifter. I wanted to keep the laramie console so we made it work
had a really good laugh when I pulled the console apart. notice the stack of washers on the passenger side of where the cup holder assembly goes. guess they needed to shim it up at the factory. I SWEAR i have never had the console apart before this and I bought the truck brand new with 30 miles on it.

Installed a short shifter also (P.O.S. as it transmits EVERY noise inside that transmission and amplifies it into the cab).
making the template for the shift boot. also moved the cigar lighter to the side
dropped the truck off at my buddies upholstery shop to get wrapped in leather
used Dzus fasteners so i can remove the boot and get under the console if needed

overall the swap was easy. H&S was a super star in helping us. Lord knows we called them to fill them in on the swap enough. The 2012 shifts awesome and we even swapped t-cases. the 2011 and older trucks have the np case and 2012 and newer have borg warner. to make the np273 shift, Lucus just had to repin 2 wires on the c130 connector on the firewall. for the borg in the 2011 I had to run 2 wires from the drivetrain control module inside the cab at the passenger front under hvac unit to the c-130 connector on the firewall. each of us had to modify the driveshafts since his is a single cab and mine is a cew cab. other than that it was fun. I went with a southbend 3250dd clutch and larger hydros. noise is not bad at all with the latest design from Peter. I also bought a stock shifter since that short throw is a pile of dog crap.

Thanks for all your hospitality brother you guys did a killer job on the mechanical stuff. I do know this 850 miles in limp mode... sucks luckily we got it figured out. Huge thanks to h&s they did a lot for us. The trans case is gravy compared to making the auto shift. Will explain more on that in a bit. I can't believe your 68 is playing nice in my truck I thought it'd be fried for sure by now
My next project is short bed conversion

I wanted to clarify that this project was done IN ALBUQUERQUE. A lil birdy told me that someone is saying that this was all done at their shop in a totally different state. FALSE!
Lucus drove 850 miles to my location, we used my buddies lift and borrowed a trans jack from a local chevy dealer where my buddy is the service director there. We had help of my buddy who is a cummins tech at the local dodge shop, another friend Sammy who is a welder, another friend Jarrett who was the comedian, Jason who owned the lift, His dad who hung out and watched and ignored their business phone , and a few others that popped in on occasion between their jobs. I do not like the attempt this person is doing to gain business for themselves. I've known them for a long time and do not understand why they would do this.

I must admit at first glance my thoughts were why not buy a new 3500 manual dually with the higher GVWR throw on the larger wheels and move the transfer tank over.. ready to drive away. Today I came back and re-read and I get it now, the 2011 has no DEF and no emission problems unlike the 2014/15 which has both of those problems plus traction control and no way to fix any of them at the moment. Nice job BTW.
