Anyone with REAL WORLD info on Programmer/Cali delete?

Just picked up a grey 2012 3500 DRW 4x4....this replaced my '03 3500 DRW 2WD.

Now i knew the mileage would be different but WOW i did not expect this much difference......

Im interested in doing the Cali delete stuff as its easy to return back to stock.

Been looking for info on programmers.....

Which one is the best bang for the buck?

Do they all modify the e-brake settings and/or parameters to make it stronger?

Do they all modify transmission functions?

And most importantly, how muich do they pick up the mileage?

Well right now there is nothing out for the '12s. However, Id be willing to bet H&S will get it soon.


Smarty, well, people are still waiting for the Sr for the 2010's

My money is with H&S. Great tuner, great support. Smarty does not offer any tranny tuning. H&S does.

You can expect around 2-3mpg increase with Cali style deletes and a tuner.

Maybe more with your driving style.

Wow thats it lol.....i baby this thing. In the city, it gets about 12-13 mpg........on the highway 14.5-15 mpg. Getting about 390 miles to a tank......

Nowhere near what my old '03 did.

And it's never going to be close to your 03. Just they way it is. It's an emissions engine. Mileage sucks.

Not to mention you went from a 2wd to a 4x4.

Yea, i realize that & i knew that before i bought it, just didnt think it would be that bad. Really though the mileage is horrible. I've seen some advertisers claim 4-5 mpg increase on 2011's with Smarty/H&S programmers & cali-style deletes.

Any truth to this?

It could happen. I only put about 600 miles on my truck since I deleted it but the first tank I saw a solid hand calculate 3mpg increase. I think it will even get better with a little more run time and less right foot. I was really into it at times.

I have the G56 3.73 combo. That's the auto/4.10 equivalent. You may see a higher gain pending on what you have and how you drive and what programmer settings you run.

Deleted and programmed that truck should easily see 17 to 18 mpg. With stock rubbers of course. Might see higher. I'd see 19 regularly in my 08 mega.

I have the 2011.5 with the H.O which should be the same as the 2012. I have the H&S mini maxx tuner with transmission download, cat, egr, dpfe delete. My truck is a 4wd Mega cab with the 3.42's and I gained 3mpg. This is a daily driver and on the highway which I have not yet done much driving I am getting 18-19. but feel like there is a bit more if I drive consertive. Call H&S, the programmer probably works for the 2012. I had 315-70-17's put on yesterday and it has not changed my in town mpg yet.

I don't remember exactly what all the cali delete's consisted of, however, my trip to TX was with the turbo back delete (stock exhaust) and the Black Maxx set to Hot w/transmission tune. I left the EGR alone since the tuner disables it on the 2010-2011's, though I do have a delete kit for that as well-just need time to install it. I am a pretty conservative driver and try my best not to rush to get anywhere. The trip out there I got 22.7mpg, up from about 16 or 17mpg on similar roads/distances..all hand calculated.

Edit: The trip from Farmington, NM to Amarrilo, TX is where I got 22.7mpg (conservative driving). The trip from Vegas to Farmington was 18.1mpg not being very conservative since I was in a rush.

I am trying to keep up on the delete stuff as I might get new soon. But,,, when you do a DPF delete do you remove the unit or does it just think it's not there and does it damage it if left in place and will it pass Cal smog? That and EGR seem to be the main problem as I read.

Im looking forward to the 2012 version being released.

Im really enjoying the new truck & all the features/comfort but im very displeased with how bad the fuel mileage is.

Nov 15th is the rumoured release date for the H&S.

If you delete the DPF in Cal, you have to return it to stock when you have a smog check done or you will fail the check. A DPF delete is physically removing the unit from the truck and putting a straight pipe in its place.

I wish I would have done the deletes last year. The amount of time and miles I put on my truck since last December (around 24K), I could have saved a lot of money. Looking forward to removing the EGR system now and cleaning up the engine bay.

Update:

Got the H&S XRT Pro - very easy to use/update.

Works great. I have it on stock power + DPF removed.

Wasnt sure on whether i could run the DPF in place this way so i called H&S and they said it would need to be removed.

Bought a delete pipe

I'm averaging 3-4 MPG better in the city (on the dash) and have got about 150KM more on this tank than the last 4 tanks of fuel.

It works - period!

Just letting anyone know who wants to save some $$$ on fuel.

That would work out to $20-$25 a tank savings. Not too hard to pay for the upgrade when you put 3-4 tanks a month in the truck.
