AFE filters, Oiled vs Non

Can I run a AFE filter that came oiled as a dry filter. They want an extra 100 bones for a non DRY filter kit. Thats very stupid when the replacement filters are less than 5 bucks deifference.

No, the oil is what filters the dirt.

the oil is what is suppose to filter the dirt. neither one filters well enough to use. do a search on test performed by independent labs. paper is the only material that will pass cummins requirements. at least the afe lets less gravel through than the K&N. go back stock

Not gonna run stock, Iknow why the oil is there, Sickof replacing OE filters every time Ichange oil. Never gonna run a K&N, but like AFE. Was suposed to have ordered the dry AFE, but the oiled version came instead. Leaving for vacation here ina day and have it installed, so Im not gonna waist a day and send this one back. I just didnt want oil on the sensors in the air box.

I've run AFE dry and oiled for a long time now.

You should not get oil on sensors... if you see oil anywhere else but the filter, then there is too much oil on the filter itself.

What do you change your engine oil every 50,000 miles or so?

This is about what I get for air filter life on my 08 using the stock MOPAR air filter and the filter minder informs me when I need to change it. I have 70,000 miles on the truck and only have changed it once around 49,000 miles or so. The filter is inspected at every oil change and the box is wiped out but the filter is still good to go. I keep a spare on hand if the filter needs to be changed early.

I have been running oiled and dry. Switched some of vehicles over some time back.
Just an idea, If you are just using insert in the stock air box. Want to save money and run a filter that has same air flow/better particle filtration than K&N, try the AMSOIL brand filter. It can be cleaned with low pressure air. I think they are around $38. for a 2010 6.7L air box. I don't know how the air flow rating is against AFE. They deffently meet all the cummins and performance requirements.

Just an idea.......

I just bought a Injen cold air set up because they use the Amsoil dry air filter, which filters extremely well and is reusable. Be sure to remove the silencer ring while your there!

I had an S&B on my 2003 for awhile. Hated cleaning it and then letting it dry prior to installation. Saw increased MPGs immediately after cleaning, but then after a couple of tanks it wasn't any better than stock. Also allowed dust in the intake tube, but newer designs might have overcome that issue. The stock intake and filters on the 4th gens have enough thru-put that I wouldn't consider an aftermarket intake on them.

Waste of money.
