What are you guys seeing with the Hemi 2500, MPG
 

i have been hearing everything from 14 right up to 23mpg! no kidding. this seems to be a huge flux. wondering what you guys are seeing. i know i bought a truck and that low mileage is expected. just wondering. my 09 silvy 6.0l was averaging 16-17. i was happy with that. if i get that with the 2010 ram id be just as happy![guitar]

I don't know about the 10's, but my wife's 08 mega gets terrible mileage, she stays around 13-15. I've got a CAI and throttle body spacer, with free flowing exhaust. That helped a little, but not much.

I have a 2006 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4... it's a 2500 with a little lighter rear spring pack.... on the highway, the best I've seen is 15.6mpg with the speedo just a tick or two above 70mph... around town it's pretty difficult to keep it over 13mpg if you're in consistent stop and go traffic... any heavy throttle applications will move the mileage readout on the overhead...

the worst thing I've seen is driving into a stiff headwind at highway speeds... in the flint hills of Kansas with a consistent 25-35mph headwind I had to keep it in tow haul(not towing anything) just to keep the trans from constantly shifting and my mileage was in the 11's...

you wont be happy with a 2500 Hemi. get a diesel. You will probably get more replies and accurate answers on a hemi forum BTW.

i will be plenty happy with a hemi. i much prefer a gasser over diesel. ive been running diesels for the last 3-4 years. despise them. i live in northern bc where the HARSHEST of conditions exist.
unless you tow, there i no reason to own a diesel. my following reasons:

1. initial cost is usually $5000 + thats ALOT of fuel consumption to warrant the extra cost
2. diesel has been more than regular here for over a month with that, the new diesels are NOT that efficient.
3. maintenance costs, last FULL service i did on my mega cab 1 ton cummins was over $500. oil changes are always over $150. dotn have a shop to do them myself or else this would be minimized
4. wear and tear. the extra weight is a terror on all front end parts as well as, tires (huge costs), shocks, and brakes. i was a branch manager as well as a fleet manager for a oilfield company. these things are FACTS. we had mixed gasser and diesels. diesels were 5x the cost to maintain. NO ONE will ever steer me other wise. and i am not going to touch injectors.
5. winter, winter, winter. stretches of -50 oC are not uncommon around here. i am an avid sledder. i own a cabin in the middle of the mountains. MILES away from any civilization. my 09 blue tech 1 ton left my stranded for 2 days. could have been more but some other sledders were in the area and boosted me. my own personal chev has never had this happen.
6. did i mention winter? lol
7. SMELL. the 09 bluetech had an issue with spitting on fuel EVERY fill up. even brought it in to dealer to see if the vent was some how plugged. their answer was ....its NORMAL. some do it some dont. i was always taking the **** squeegy for the windshields and wiping off the mess. but since it was a company truck i didnt care so much. always having to carry gloves to fill up. these gloves get smelly over time (short time) due to the diesel residue on the pumps. if ya forget the gloves ya grab the paper towels, only to have it seep through on to your hands. [duhhh]

these are my reasons. i put 98,000km's on the 07 mega cab and 09 blue tech combined last year. driving is what i do.
i will never own a diesel truck unless i got into towing. i am also not into programming and what not. a diesel is a tuners dream. i like simple mods, exhaust, intake, mild lifts, tires, rims, etc.

i do realize this is a diesel site. besides there is more info on this site for the 2500-3500. hence me asking here.
i am in no way shooting down anyones vehicles. this is just MY reasoning behind the hemi purchase. i get 16-17 mpg with a 6.0 gasser now. thats cruising highway speeds. my old 07 mega cab was 20mpg and the 09 bluetech was 17mpg. do the math. the difference with the motor prices alone do not warrant it, let alone all the other items.

I can see your point for wanting the Hemi.

I had an 06 1500 with the Hemi. 16 on the highway taking it easy was the best Id see. 14 on average.

Wife has an 08 Durango Limited, she drives like she has glass slippers on. 17.5 at best.

Dont think your gonna see real great milage with the 2500 but maybe they have improved the MPG's with the newer engines.

My dad has a 2010 4x4 gas 1500 laramie. He is lucky to see 13.5 to 14 on the highway. In town he gets 10.8, but he is towing a 1600 lb trailer. It only has 2400 miles on it, but he is super disappointed in the fuel economy. That hemi has no shortage of power though.

For the price difference, that hemi is a serious option and tough motors.

I would say something is not right... I get much better mileage than that with my 06 1500 Mega 4x4 with no MDS, a truck that weighs 6300 pounds and catches wind like a sailboat...

15,000 on the odometer now. I am up to 13.5 average. 15 mpg on a long trip has been my best.
I have the Bully Dog GT and yesterday I ripped the old muffler out and put a 3" dynomax glass pack on.
I will be driving 500 miles tomorrow. We will see if that helps.

When it was new it took a couple thousand miles to get above 11 mpg.

I see you have a Hemi - is your truck a 1500 or 2500? Just curious....

Mine is a 2500. I think the 1500 does alot better on fuel.

16--17 with chevys 6.0 is amazing I know 4 people that have that gasser in a 3/4 ton and they tell me 6-10 driving empty.

With the 6.0L's and 4.10 we've always gotten in the 13-15 range with the service trucks, carrying between 7500-9000lbs GVW...only had one get less than that.

The Hemi's, I've never heard of anyone around here getting that mileage!
