what rear end doe my truck have?

took my last eight numbers to my vin to the dealer he said that I have a american rear end in my 2012 never have heard of that brand has anyone out there have any insights into that brand? I have always thought it was a dana 70 are 80 but was wrong on that one. is the american a bigger rear end than dana ? and if so what kind of fluid would go in it ?

its a AMM 11.5 that both Dodge and GM use after about 2003 or so. From what im told Its just slightly weaker than a Dana 80 but much stronger than a Dana 70, same gear oil as the Dana units.

My understanding is that the AAM units are much better than the Dana 80's were. You rarely hear of a rear end failure since they went to AAM. As far as lube goes, use a GL5 full synthetic. If I remember correctly 80/90 weight.

The AAM 11.5 uses a helical gear limited slip unit (similar to a Torsen) that, as I recall, will provide power to the wheel with more traction at a ratio of 5:1 to that of the wheel with less traction. That's fine unless the one wheel is on ice, or has nearly no bite compared to the other wheel. (5*0=0).
