Trade up or switch to 1500
The 5.9 has 225K on it and runs great but with it being a 2005, time is ticking. I have experienced the oil pan rust thru, second door wiring issue, wire harness/computer issue, transmission just re-built which is probably typical with over 200K and a box since around 30K. So all in all it has been a good truck, just trying to justify the additional expense and issues.
Have been reading about some of the issues on the new 2500 Cummins, some environmentally driven, some electrical ... jut seems like the price they want for these trucks they should be issue free.
Are the 1500 Hemi's the same? I don't pull much and if it is heavy it is a short distance.
I traded the Nissan 4x4 in for the Dodge and it had 330K on it, no issues other than oil,brakes.... I know it is a lot lighter/smaller truck, just trying to justify the additional cost. When I bought in 05 it was between Dodge and Toyota Tundra, they wanted 8K more for the Tundra, final offer, and they would not budge so it was an easy choice.
Not sure what the price difference is now but looking on-line the Nissan Titans are about the same price as Dodge Cummins.
Maybe I'm just getting old, I will pay but expect it to work, give me your thoughts.

I think the biggest problem with the new trucks and one not really talked about is the gauge of wire used. While the gauge may be able to carry the amount of current it cannot stand up to rough treatment and we are already seeing intermittent broken wire problems on the 2013. Many problems can be "fixed" but finding a broken wire that is touching end to end can be tricky and to replace a complete wire harness with one the same gauge is pointless. Sealed multi pin connectors while having gold plated connector pins are useless if the rear of the connector is open to the elements and can corrode the pins.

I've also been looking at new trucks and very interested in the new Titan XD. But I'm going to wait to see how the XD performs in the real world as for reliability and workmanship. As for pricing compared to the Ram 2500 it's skewed due the amount of rebates/dealer discounts Ram is offering. Comparing MSRP pricing between the XD and 2500 with similar packages the Ram is higher but with the rebates it's a wash. But that could change in the future with Nissan offering higher rebates and dealer discounts.
One thing I did wish the XD had is a engine brake. Hello, BD or Banks??!!

Drove thru a Nissan lot yesterday and they had a Cummins stickered at 52K, luckily I was able to get away before the sales vultures saw me.
Back to the engine bake, I have read that if you don't use it it will stick, which makes sense but I do not want to have to worry about turning it on or it wont work next time you need it. Also I have been reading about Nissan axles leaking which I thought were Dana so I would have thought they would be fine.
I have not been to a lot but it looks like you can get a Tundra 4x4 crew cab for $35K, this seems less than the Nissan. Not sure this is correct.
When I bought the Ram in 2005 it was between Dodge and Tundra, the Tundra was $37k and I got the Ram for $30K, I laughed at the Tundra salesman since this is like comparing a Mack to a pickup, if you are going to use it for that purpose, but $7K more seemed ridiculous.

I looked at the Tundra's and slightly miffed at Toyota. To get the larger fuel tank to feed the thirsty 5.7L you have to go with the more expensive trim packages which put you in the mid $40k range for the 4x4. Whereas Ford and Ram you can get the option larger tanks in the lower tier packages and keep the price below the $40k mark. And for a tow pig larger tanks is a must!
And the XD only comes with the 26 gallon tank so that's another disappointment for me.
Nothing sucks worse than driving across Texas and getting 10mpg or less and having a 26 gallon tank. LOL

what about a gas 2500? seems there should be some bolt-ons that would help MPG?
I was looking hard at a Tundra recently, and the MPG was ~14 or so empty & stock,
and 11~12 lifted & with wide heavy tires.
