The "Payload" is the difference between what the truck actually weighs compared to the GVWR which is on the drivers door jamb. As all trucks are different weights depending on what options they have the "payload" is also different, the only thing constant is the GVWR. To determine what "your" payload is you need to weigh the truck equipped with all options as it would normally travel with, (hitches, side steps, bush bars, full fuel, passengers, tool box, tools) then subtract that from the GVWR.

Is it 2wd...4wd???
Automatic or G56???
Regular Cab or Crew Cab???
Shortbed or longbed???
All of these things affect the payload.
Look for a sticker like the one below on your truck.
10,000 - 1,980 = 8,020 (the truck's weight)
