Need advice (considering 2012 6.7)
I've had a 2004 Dodge 2500 5.9 for 9 years now. It has 276K miles and I'm going to look at a 2012 Dodge 2500 6.7 that is all stock. It has 168K miles and has pulled a boat occasionally that is around 7000-8000 lbs. it has no gooseneck ball so I know it hasn't pulled heavy gooseneck loads. What do I need to ask and look for? It's a for sale by owner, the tailgate and passenger side bed have some minor dents that the seller said he would have fixed first. Asking $22K

My first question is are you going to delete or not? My stock 12 while a great truck was by far the most expensive truck to operate. Oil changes every 3-3500 miles, very low fuel mileage due to regen cycles. Next is at 160k miles you are going to have some maintenance items to deal with, and who knows how long the service life of the emissions systems are but when they need to be replaced it's going to be big money.
I would pass.
I would pass.

I would go with 2013 or newer. They changed them to DEF which solved the issues that Rye was speaking of. My 2015 has been a great truck. Fuel milage is very similar to my 2005.

I would ask to see maintenance records first. No maintenance documented I would pass on this truck. Major concern would be DPF cracked and leaking? Black soot in tailpipe? Trans and diff ever serviced? All recalls have been done? I would agree with RyeThomas the fuel mileage on this year wasn't that great. O2 sensors issues with CEL on. Now that these trucks are out of warranty any emission problems can be costly.

If the '12 is deleted and the regular maintenance done on it then you should be ok.
