installing a new transmission oil pan

I'am going to install a new afe transmission oil pan and my neighbor was saying that he wouldn't do that because of the thermostat that's in the tranny it would cause it to run at a cooler temp.is this true? i was told that having a cooler tranny is what you want in a tranny even if you r not towing anything. I'am open to any ideas on this. Ive already purchased the tranny oil pan . I have a 2012 6.7 with a 68RFE six speed

first, isnt it funny how the meaning of words have changed. Merle said it best in his song, i wish a buck was still silver..

Your not going to hurt anything. Your going to prolong the life of your tranny. Your going to have more oil so you'll get better life out of your oil. The ONLY drawback I see, is the built in drain plugs. People tend to drain the oil and refill it. Once you drain it, without the mess this time, make sure you drop that pan and look inside for signs of failure and premature wear and change the filter.

You shouldn't have any problems with ground clearance. I'd like to change my pan too.

On my 2011 68RFE I installed a finned aluminum pan with a drain plug when I changed the transmission oil for the first time. It lowered the transmission temp 10-12 deg, I have gauges so I can monitor when towing heavy or towing in the mountains. The drain plug enables you to drain the oil BEFORE dropping the pan to change the filters, it's soooo much cleaner this way and I would recommend it in a second.
