How to open radiator drain valves / pet(ocks on 2013?
Trying to replace my water pump, and am failing at step one. I can get to both radiator drain valves and turn both 1/4 turn. As I understand it, they need to be pulled straight out for the water to drain. But, the channel lock pliers keep slipping off. I've even tried turning and pulling simultaneously to break the o-ring friction. Any tips / tricks would be appreciated. I've pretty much given up on draining this way, and will likely just take off the lower radiator hose. Unless someone has a silver bullet method to get these open. Thanks in advance.

I don't want it to fail on a trip and have to change it in a parking lot. I already have the pump and everything to do it. Who knows when FCA will get around to performing the recall.

put a big drain pan under the front of engine and just remove the pump! what leaks out is all you will have to replace! |

Pop off the bottom radiator hose. The petcocks are know to leak after you drain and try to re-seat them. Just be ready when you pull that hose cuz she comes out "rapidly".
