if you are concerned with jelling, Look into the mopar severe duty filtration system. It will add a flu water separator under the truck and add another fuel heater to your system. I found them on ebay...

Sure running a extra fuel filter cant hurt running. But a 2micron fuel filter under the truck out in the open, I know I would have a problem with jelling

I ran the first filter to 32K, and noticed no difference in power even then, I just figured it was time to change it. Second one has 21K on it so far, and I might go ahead and change it next oil change.

Why change the fuel filter so often? A dirty filter filters better than a clean one, and it's not like an oil filter where it bypasses once full, it just stop working...so it will tell you when it's ready.

At least that's my opinion, and it has served me well over the few hundred thousand miles I've put on diesels, and it works well at the store on the machines we sell and service. The tractors tell you when the fuel pressure is starting to drop, so you change the filters. Plenty of margin of error before pump integrity is lost.

I don't recall where you are located, but most of the locals here tell me that gelling is not too bad of a issue here. As long as you are not running summer fuel.

I hope to be heading south before its a concern, but I want know what to watch for and at what temps it starts.

Thanks guys.
Because the filter is hanging exposed to the air...the tank is more protected, and it getting warmed return fuel.

It happens, to trucks, tractors, semi's, etc.

The newer truck filters are 10 times better than the ones on the 5.9. Do some searching on here. Was a nice write up on them.

Fuel Filter

For those of you running the stock fuel filter. I came across a good deal on them. I was quoted at the dealer $65 for a fuel filter. So looked on line and found Discount Fleet Supply selling Wix 33255 fuel filters which is filter for the 4th Gens 10-11'. Price was $28+ shipping. Recieved the filter today and opened up the box and is the same exact filter from Dodge. Has the Cummins and Fleetgaurd stamps right on top.

Fuel gelling happens at/in the filter. This is why the factory has a heater in it.

Wow! Two more things I did not know in one post on one topic. I had no idea that the filter had a heater in it. Thanks for the info.

4th Gen GDP MKII w/Big Line kit installation picture. I know I am a full delete guy but even 100% stock the GDP MKII Big Line kit fits perfectly and does not interfere with any of the factory emission equipment.

Hey Brian

You should get one of these from GDP. Saw about a 100-200 deg drop in EGTs, look good, and is supposed to flow some serious air.

Cleans up the bay even more.

And yes, the MK2 kit is one of the best things you can do for your truck. Im about to put an airdog on mine and Im gonna get the 1/2 pushlocks and go from the airdog into the MK2 filter.

Blake, Is the line coming from the filter 1/2"? I thought it was 3/8".

Also what is the alum. block the fuel line on the right is going into?

Would you mind telling me how the pushlocks work? To me, the parts I have look like regular barbs - but I have never used them on anything. The universal kit I have sitting here has 3/8" fittings and I was going to pick up fuel hose for it this week. Do I need something special?

Thanks
