Fuel Economy

I was under the impression the 14 and new were supposed to get better fuel economy than the pre SCR motors. It is not turning out to be the case with mine.

City I get 12-14, Highway 15-6 and towing well I used 305 gallon on 2900 mile trip and 5+ gallons of DEF. Came out to 9.5 hand calculated [verymad]. I made this same trip a couple years ago driving the same speed of 75mph, with the 03 with 2000lb heavier trailer that had more wind drag and got 12.5 MPG avg. I even set the cruise at 65 for one tank and it didn't improve.

This trip was from SW Missouri through the black hills of SD across Big Horn mountains and back home.

Just before I bought it the dealer did the latest software flash that caused the fuel filter gauge to show it bad when its not.

Is it the software? Is it just normal for these trucks? Those that have deleted did you see any improvement in the MPG department towing? I don't care about highway or city as this thing is mostly a tow rig and I tow alot.

The 5+ gallons of DEF has me concerned as well in that short of mileage, is this an expected usage? If it wasn't for the Bells and Whistles of this truck I would have already traded it for a 5.9.

You are about 2mpg worse than what I see, and I was hoping for closer to my 2005.

Of course my 2016, Cummins/Aisin is a SRW with the 3.42 would not be the same as yours but with less than 5000, on my last road trip with 2000 lbs in the bed and driving 70 - 80 mph, I recorded 18.1 mpg. Interestingly, when I curbed my need for speed and ran it at 65 mph the mpg jumped to 21 - 22.

Good to know if I need daily driver. Thats about in line with my Charger that I'm thinking about trading on something. Wife would just love 2 diesels!

11 anything would be fantastic. This might be why the previous owner traded for a Ford since he worked all over the US.

Looks like i'm on par for the unloaded. Guess I will deal with. Does deleting provide any help? I wanted to leave one alone as I have the 99 to tinker with but it eats into my eating out budget on trips, lol.
