Front End in four wheel drive
Front End in four wheel drive
hey fellas-
I know the front ends on our trucks are heavy steel beasts but is it normal for the bucking and gripping of the front end while using 4WD normal? At slow speeds the rocking of the front end and see-sawing of the the steering wheel just seem odd. I'm just using it on the snow packed driveway recently until I get to pavement. On my '07 it was noticeable but not this bad. is it because I now have the manual tranny?
Thanks.

It depends more on the change of the surface that you are on. The more traction that you gain, the more bucking. It is the bind and release of the driveline that you are feeling. All 4WD's do it, some more than others due to type of tires (traction), style of driveline (u-joints don't run as smooth when turned tight as CV joints do), weight distibution, worn u-joints, wheelbase length, etc. I don't think the difference is between the two different year models or auto versus manual, but changes in conditions.
Check your front axle u-joints. I just bought my 2010 with 40K on the clock and the U-joints are shot. Going to call the dealer tomorrow and see if they will fix it under warranty. The little blue card says they are covered under the 5 yr 100k powertrain....
