EGR/DPF Issues
 

I talked to a few different dealerships today of which all told me that the 2007 and 2008 diesels were the ones that mainly had the issues with the EGR/DPF issues. They told me that the cummins was already designed and then the new EPA regulations were put into effect so they had to work around the existing cummins engine which is why they ran into issues.

With the 2010 and 2011 models they told me this hasn't been an issue due to cummins working along with Dodge to modify the cummins to work with these new EPA regulations. They also told me as long as you do oil changes every 5,000miles, fuel filter changes every 10,000miles, and keep your air filter clean you should have no problems nor need to do the EGR/DPF delete mods. I guess only time will tell, but as far as I'm concerned I will not be doing these mods because I have the 100,000mile warranty and do not want to void it.

Only mod I will be doing is most likely the bulldog programmer. Or does anyone have any suggestions on a better programmer?

they will also void your warranty when they see you have changed the program. so why not stop all that soot from entering your brand new motor? do the delete.

The 2010 and 2011 engines and emissions systems are the same as the 2007.5 and up. EXACTLY the same. The only difference is in the software revisions. All 6.7's can get the latest software for free, from the dealer.

ANY programmer, regardless of who makes it will void your warranty. DO NOT let ANYONE tell you otherwise. Once you load that tune on there, you have become your own warranty station. I took that route last May and have not looked back since. My oil is still clean after 2000 miles.

Ok so now I am very nervous... I have 17,000miles on my cummins already and have not done the delete. Am I already in trouble? [verymad] I don't enjoy spending 60k on a vehicle that I expect to last me easily 300+ miles if its not going too...

You're not in trouble. The truck will last just fine with all of the emissions equipment still installed. There are numerous owners out there with hundreds of thousands of miles on their trucks with the equipment still installed and the engine is still running strong.

If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, go ahead and delete. Otherwise, just leave it alone like myself and numerous others until your atleast out of warranty. Also remember demending on where you live there could be vehicle emissions testing, so you'd have to install all of the emissions equipment to pass the test anyways.............

I'm in the same boat you're in with not wanting to void the warranties.

My solution is an easy one: I'm just going to make a spot on a shelf in my garage for all my parts I need to do the deletes if they become a problem. Basically it will be my own "Plan B" so that if I need to, I'll gut the emissions stuff in my driveway.

While I really want to do the deletes I'd be a fool to do so at this point. Since I purchased an extended warranty before learning about the deletes. So I'll wait until the truck is closer to the end of the warranty.
Untill then I'll change my oil every 4K and my fuel filter every 8K. I did put a AFE Dry flow drop in filter with DPP cool air tube. So I just have to wash the air filter out once in a while..... I'll be hanging in there until then
