2012 Transmission Return Line - Which One?
Hello everyone,
I have a 2012 mega cab w/ the auto transmission (68RFE) with just less than 50K miles.
I just purchased the HYTEC trans pan, mainly for having the drain plug, added fluid / aluminum is a plus - having the optional extra cooler on the truck really keeps the trans temps in control.
I want to flush the entire transmission fluid doing the following:
- drain fluid
- add fluid
- remove cooler return line (fluid input to transmission)
- Place cooler return line in bucket
- Run truck in park or idle to "pump" fluid out of the trans thru the cooler, back to the trans
- immediately turn off turn when the fluid stops flowing or is reduced in flow
As I said, I did this in my 2004.5 and the trans lived for 225K, truck was primarily used to pull dump trailers and 2 car enclosed gooseneck.
Question for the forum - I see two trans lines, one lower and one upper. I am assuming the upper is the return. I am just looking for verification from someone that knows.
Also, what position will "pump" fluid thru the cooler? Park and or Neutral?
Lastly Fluid - I believe the required type of fluid is ATF+4, besides MOPAR fluid which is branded for them, any suggestions for fully Syn? I am thinking Castrol. Fluid brands can be very emotional, just looking for any opinions but I don't want to create a thread on why one fluid is the only fluid to use.
Thanks Everyone
Love my RAM!

Per a TDR article, it's the bottom on the 68RFE
