Hi all.

I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 4/4 diesel with around 88,000 miles. On Monday I took my truck down to the local tire guys and had them do an alignment and rotate my tires. On Tuesday I was backing out of the driveway and noticed a rather loud squealing noise coming from the rear. I take it to the local dodge dealer (not the same guys that I went to on monday) and get them to take a look at it. They decided that it was glazed rear brakes and tell me that they deglazed the brakes and all is good. I am skeptical as the sound did not sound like a brake issue but I am not a mechanic. I get my truck back and it is still making this loud sqeaking noise. It only makes the noise when backing up. Driving forward there is no noticeable issue.

Any idea what the noise may be?

A rock in a brake rotor lodged between the rotor and the backing plate.

Dry u-joints squeak (at 88k you're about due) but I've always had them squeak both directions, forward and reverse. Block the front tires, put it in neutral, jack up the rear and rotate the rear tires by hand. You'll figure it out.

I had the squeak only in reverse on mine. It was the rear u-joints.
