who makes the trans in the dodge chassis cab?

so i am sitting here looking through a sterling bullett brochure and have noticed the obvious similarities to the chassis cab by dodge. but in the bullett book it says the 6 speed is made by Mercedes Benz. Who makes it for Dodge? i know that both auto trans are made by Aisin. thanks in advance for clearing this up

I maybe wrong, but they should both have the G56, which is built by Mercedes. I know that is what is in the Dodge.

There is absolutely no difference in the drivetrain between the sterling and the dodge. Same truck. Different incentives. Manual trans is a g56 Benz in both trucks.

Dodge transmission 45/5500

So far everyone has talked about the manual, the auto in these trucks is made by Aisin the same as for the 3500's CC's to my knowlege.

If it is the marcedes it is a big unit ! no toy

white Lightning 12-06-2008 07:17 PM

auto is made bi Aisin and the manuel is a g56 made by benz

thumper549 12-06-2008 08:04 PM

I think where we get confused is gtrag and g 56

I am to understand the manual is a getrag. I read an artical today where they said it was a benz but in fact it's a getrag. If ya need the link I'll find it.

thumper549 02-15-2009 02:59 PM

Yes post it please... as I would have a hard time believing they would ever bother with a GTRAG

thumbs 02-15-2009 06:15 PM

Ok let me see if I can find it. I think the way it went was the interviewer mentioned about the benz trans and the rep stated yes but really it's a getrag. I'll try to find it. Remember just because its in print don't make it so.[coffee]

Scroll down to the powertrain under the pict of the engine. As I read it now it say "by an outsider". This is important to me also. I am looking to buy a 4500 but would really have second thoughts about another getrag. Honestly this one has served me very well. I tow heavy with it and she went 170k before she let go. I am runnin it now rebuilt but I am askin way more of this truck than it was designed to do. That being said I hope the manual is a benz. Let me know what you find out.

thumper549 02-15-2009 07:45 PM

OK read it, thanks !
IT IS a BIG mistake as they are not one and the same at all GTRAG and G56
I own a G56, I also know they are two different of transmissions from different vendors.
Hope some one else steps in to help this..........sure is misleading !!

Cummins610 02-15-2009 08:02 PM

Its a G56 made by Mercedes-Benz. .

thumper549 02-15-2009 10:01 PM

Some how they goofed on their tech sheet as they have not used a GTRAG for ...awhile

thumbs 02-16-2009 08:27 AM

Not to be honest here they did say a bystander. I don't know if it was the guy selling hotdogs or someone that knew anything at all. Like I said this is a big thing to me. I am considering a 4500 and am thinkin if I can get a good 6 speed manual I may avoid another computer and searching for gears under load. Again I know not of what I speak but if the trans they are using now is a strong one it is a consideration.

What you see on the web is not always what they sell..

I actually caught an error on the Dodge up fitters guide as well (it went unnoticed for over a year), when I called Dodge they fixed it and said thanks we'll put you in the drawing for a new truck.. [laugh][laugh]

I was always a stick-man myself but the Bullet has to spot trailers by some really expensive equipment so I decided on the auto.. I like it it, it sure beats slipping the clutch on an engine that idles at 700 RPM.
