PTO question

Can the PTO operate while the vehicle is driving? I am considering buying a 5500. I want to get a hydraulic winch and I was considering using a PTO hydraulic pump but I need to be able to drive and winch at the same time.

You can if you use a belt driven engine mounted pto. Usually anything on the tranny is designed for a "working while standing" operation.

if its an auto u will put it in d to activate and deactivate. N to drive the pto.u could allways go the electric pump route, but im not a fan . www.surpluscenter.com has some good deales on pto electric and non e.

Found the answer to my question.

From the bodybuilders guide - the PTO can be operated either stationary or moving. Moving feature must be enabled by dealer. You can set a speed limiter for moving operation up to 25 mph.

Just in case your dealer ain't smart enought to realise it but the PTO option is ONLY avail in ST and SLT

I have a chelsea 442 for the G56 and you can use it while moving it depends on the gearing you slected for the pto and your hydraulic pump..you don't want to over speed it but for winching you should be fine as its low speed.. my hydraulic pump is high pressure for my hoist ..etc
Thanks

PTO application

Can anyone tell me what manuel tranny model years a aftermarket pto can be used on? I'm looking to get a hydraulic dovetail and winch combo on a gooseneck trialer to pull behind my 96 3500 and either I mount a pony motor which costs 4-5K or get a pto mount pump. Open to suggestions.

A pto does'nt fit on the manual transmission of a 4x4 5500, because the front driveline hits it.

Most hydraulic winches run off of your power stearing (i.e Ramsey winches). The power stearing pump is a belt driven pto of sorts. But if the engine ever stops you out of luck on your winch.Warn makes a 16,000 pound electric winch, witch is 32,000 double line.

Any reason you can't use the HydroBoost pump to run the winch? I run a 12K# hydrowinch off of mine and it works great on the GN for both loading and the powered ramp.
The 100% duty cycle is what sold me on them over battery-operated winches.
