Fuel Milage and Flatbeds

I would like to know what kind of fuel mileage people are getting with these new 4500s and 5500s. Loaded, unloaded, pulling empty and under load.

Also: What is the lengths of beds you can put on these trucks?

in town (haven't taken it out on the road yet with a load) empty i am averaging just over 14mpg. that is equivelant to the 05 3500 4x4 quad cab dullie i traded in. the o5 3500 diesel had a 3.73 axle.
the 08 5500 4x4 quad cab has 4.88 gears, but has no bed just rear fenders and a 20,000 hitch plate. i am looking for ways to improve my mileage as is everyone else.

You can go with SRW like the big trucks are doing. If you stay light, 245/70/19.5 would be good for around 10K. I know I'm going with 225/70/19.5 G rated tires. That will allow me 8500lbs for the rear axle and with any luck gain 1mpg on the deadhead.

Are you looking at the overhead for MPG? On a US gallon I am getting mid 12s in town. Got about 9.5 towing a 15k lb 5ver hand calculated.

At what speed are you guys getting these numbers from? I know the mileage varies wildly at various speeds. If the 4500-5500s are getting the same mileage at the same speeds as the 3500s unloaded then that would be GREAT!

I have been averaging 11.1 miles per gallon. 4500, 4x4, Aisin, crew cab, flat bed and all my gear the truck weighs 13,500lbs. Lowest I have seen was pulling the dump trailer with 12,000 pounds of rock, total weight combined 29,000lbs, was getting 9.5mpg. All of this is off of my display. Should do a hand calculation on it but by the time I'm done filling up I'm having a mild heart attack, digging for my oxygen mask and forget to write down mileage/gallons.

I just did a 2500 mile trip to Florida and back.
I towed a 2 horse trailer full of hay going and brought back the same trailer with a horse in it... so between 6-8000 lbs in the trailer
The truck weighs 9820 lbs empty.
I got right at 9 MPG hand calculated. I set the cruise on 70.

I made the same trip in December with the same trailer and drove my 2003 2500. I got 12.4 with it, going about 73.

When checking mpg, it is really important to note the speed, as mpg drops off significantly as you go faster, especially if you are towing a trailer with a big frontal area.

Just got a 07 3500 4x4 quad cab chassis cab aisin auto and 4:10 gears SINGLE tire. Early 07's had option to activate ebrake, it wasn't activated on this one. All deletes are done on it now. Have the Anarchy Diesel autocal light 50-75-100hp tunes. Tried the 75hp econo tune and 100hp street tune. Mixed driving easy on throttle and no more than 60mph hwy. 13.5mpg average so far. Overhead 15.3-19.
