5500 4x4 front end problems

my 08; 5500 with only 6,200 miles on it is eating up the front tires. When going forward making slow tight turns like in a parking space the front end will act like it is in four wheel drive on hard payment. anyone else have this issue? it is in the shop, waiting on their verdict. i had an 05 dully 4x4 that did this before it had the death wobbles, but that was at 50,000 + miles.

Mine did the same but only the pass side. I put on the spare and its still on there, it stopped wearing. I think dodge just used cheap Goodyear knockoff tires. 120,000 and still stock tires.

one thing i was told today is that the front axle on a 5500 4x4 is always engaged, the only thing not engaged is the tranfer box. the 3500 and 2500 front axle is only engaged when the box is in 4 wheel drive.

unfortunetly my dealer does not have the alignment equipment for the 4500 or 5500 to check the alignment.
both of the front tires are warn unevenly. they were rotated today. i'll have a talk with chrysler tomorrow. at the rate the fronts were wearing i won't get 30,000 miles out of the tires

610 thanks for your input. maybe there is more then one reason the speed is limited to 75mph because of the tires.

The 2500 and 3500 front axles on '03-up trucks is also always engaged. Just the transfer case is disengaged.

Maybe the rotation will help it. My tire did not only wear but did something called scaling, it looks as you cut out pieces of the tire creating bumps and dips. My dealer also said they don't have the equip to handle the 4500/5500 alignment. I tried to warranty the tire so i went to a local heavy duty shop and I got a alignment done, it checked out 100%, the shop claimed a wheel bearing was the problem so i got no tire warranty.

that is a pretty good discription of what both tires are doing. i would think that a bearing would be something that you would feel in the steering. not being a mechanic i get frustrated with the illogical explanations i get from time to time. but don't know enough to argue the case.

My tires same way 610. I was thinking of buying 2 new steering tires or solid rib style for the front, and keep the old ones for back. I do not really need the M&S tires on front. I saw some Cab and Chassis in the dealer lot with M&S on back and smooth on front, but I could not order it that way....
