Wierd turn signal activity
I got a new 5th wheel yesterday & drove it home. Other than that, my signals have worked normal for 30K mi. w/or w/out towing multiple different campers/trailers. Today when I had my turn sig. on & turned, before I straightened the wheel the signal turned off(quit flashing). I switched the handle back to off then pushed it down again & I got nothing for the left or right signals. Then I turned the headlights on then off & tried again & they worked. It did it again about 10 min. later. Anyone know what the deal could be?

mine did something like that today. I pm'd vzdude to see if something called the clock spring in the steering wheel could cause that. He had mentioned early that might be something to check. I've had issues with the cruise control kicking out and now the turnsignals are acting wierd. I did have the lights on and wipers on. I pushed the left turnsignal and the right one came on.

i had a similar problem, replaced the whole switch assembly $56 at dealer(turn, hazzard, wiper)and no problem since
|
I've read about people having the right turn on when the left should have but not the same thing I'm having. This happened w/out a trailer connected.
|
Ditto here...Same thing when using the right signal with no trailer. Hasnt happened in a while..Not sure if its mechanical or what.
|
More than likely just a turn signal switch , like said above. Very common.

Same problems on my 06 truck here a few months back. Replaced the whole turn signal assembly with new upgraded part and problem solved.

Hey,
I am having the same issues. Left is Right, Right is Left, Work no Work. Reposition the Steering Wheel with the tilt and everything is good. Can you replace the module yourself or is it a dealer only. And is it covered under warrenty, because I saw a cost above associated with it. Stealth |

I have been ignoring the problem for over a year now but it seems more frequent now than ever guess its time to replace mine. Anyone have a part #????????????? Do you have to take the whole steering column apart????????????????? TIA |
Just take the column cover off. It's about 3-4 screws. Basically the square plastic that coes around the turnsignal switch and the hazard button. Once that is off, there are another 2 or 3 screws and the entire "multifunction switch" comes off. Well....and a wiring connector. They call it a multifunction switch because of all the wipers, washers, turns, hazards....ect......get it .....multi function. These directions are from memory, but if anyone needs it, I can post the actuall page from the FSM.

Ditto on what vz dude said. I had ito run down and buy the correct "hex" for the removal of the plastic cover around the steering wheel. After you remove all the screws (turning the steering wheel to get to all of them) the switch will pull out to the left. I had to yank on the switch and it popped out in the floor board. DONT LET DODGE DO THIS!!! Dont pay someone $70 and hour todo a 15 minute job my 15 yr. old son could do. Its easy.
|
But shoud'nt it be covered under warrenty?
Any chance of the Wires on the switch just being Loose? |
Bumper to bumper 3yr./36K mi. will cover it, of course. Unless you have put in aftermarket valvestem caps. Then the warranty is voided. :):):)
Just kiddin'! |
Dodge part# 56045515AA
Very easy and took maybe 10 minutes to replace. VzDdude posted the instructions. |
It's the multi-function switch, but don't ask your dealer to fix it under warranty, they'll say that can't duplicate the problem and it's probably caused by fuel rail mods like my Quad Standard.
