What Does The Vehicle Build Seq Numbers Tell You, Or How Do You Decipher Them. I Want To Know Build Date, Tranny, Etc.

 

Since all the Cummins powered rams are built in Mexico, my guess is the sequence #'s are the order it was built. A while ago, Tomeygun mentioned that they were going to start building the Cummins Rams in St. Louis again, but I'm not sure if any of the 06's are built there now. With the gas rams that are built in more than one plant, each plant is given a block of sequence #'s. So a truck with a # in the 300,000's might have actually been built before one in the 100,000's. I forgot where I heard this, but it made sense to me.

Build date will be on the plate on the drivers door jamb and engine build date is on the engine, drivers side up high. Lots of info there.

Trannys aren't listed in the vin. If you have a shift lever on the column, you have an auto. If it's on the floor, it's a stick.

A sticker in your glove box will give the tranny info.

 

My 06 diesel was built in St. Louis.

 

Well now I know. Thanks for the info. My 95 gasser ram was built in St. Louis and I was happy with it's build quality.

 

I would ask the mods to delete the vin number. That is how you get your keys cut. So now any criminal has the abilitie to get keys for your truck.
