I just got a new dually and was wondering whether it is a safe assumption that all TSBs were installed in the factory. In other words, are the TSBs that have come out prior to the production of the truck installed?

 

I think you can go to the dealer and give them your VIN# and they should be able to see if any outstanding TSB's are for it.

But granted, I do now know if those are loaded before leaving the mother shop.

 

Best way to see if the ECM has been updated is to plug in the scan tool, retrieve the part number it shows, run the # and see if it's the latest/greatest on the MDS.

 

I took my early build 06' to the dealer. They tried telling me I was upto date. Once I gave them the actual TSB # they recanted and agreed to do the work.

 

I asked my local dealer about TSBs and they said they don't do them unless there is a problem reported. Is this the norm? Are they only supposed to do it if I have problems or should TSBs be done to any truck, as requested by the owner?

 

Yeh it is. I took my new truck back to the dealer today so they could install the ebrake and while there I talked to the service mgr. He said that TSBs are to solve specific problems that show up on some trucks but not necessarily all. If a customer complains about a problem and they have a TSB then they will do whatever the TSB says.

TSB flashes may or may not be put into the production vehicles before they leave the factory. If they know that ALL vehicles will have a problem then it is done in the factory prior to shipping.
