Towing - 2004.5 srw 2500, dodge says 13.8K
I have seen some people pull a telehandler (shooting boom lift) which weighs 20K plus the trailer.
Dodge says my 2004.5 truck can pull 13.8K lbs. I do have a 5th wheel - what is the max load I can pull with my truck, assuming good trailer brakes. I also see guys pulling three cars and trailer which adds up quickly assuming each car is 4 to 5K lbs plus the weight of the trailer. Please let me know what you guys pull or what you think I can pull safely at 50 mph. Scott |
I believe you are correct with a tow weight of 13,800lbs. I looked mine up one time and I thing it was 13,450lbs, I have 4:10's. Here's a link.

The rating on all the 3rd gens is as follows. GCVWR of 21,000lbs on trucks with 3.73 gears. 23,000 with 4.10s.
This is the truck and it's cargo (or pin weight) plus any trailer and it's cargo. What you have to watch is the pin weight overloading your GVWR (truck and it's cargo) which is 9000lbs total. Particularly the tire ratings. The trucks are capable of pulling much much more and Chrysler derates them alot for their own liability reasons. But if you are trying to stay within the ratings.........they are listed above. If you want to know how much you can pull (according to the ratings) just go weigh your truck then subtract that weight from 21,000 or 23,000 depending on your rear gear ratio. Hope that helps. |

I've hooked 15000lb on my 04 with no problem. 8000lb car (64caddi with motor), 4000lb home made trailer, and parts from ohter cars. I did have to use first gear though.
