Question Topper/Cap How tight?

As the title says, I was wondering if anyone knows how tight the clamps holding down a cap need to be. I have an ARE on the 03 in my signature. After two years the clamps have loosened up a bit and I know I need to tighten them up. (They were not so loose that the cap was moving, i'm just overly concious about things like this)

I've searched the threads here to no avail and can't seem to find any literature that says how tight. Given that the top is made of fiberglass I would be worried about making it too tight.

I always run mine "snug", maybe 10 ft/lb, and double nut the brackets so they won't back off.

I never thought of threading on two nuts on to the bottom of the bolt going through the clam.... I think they stick out far enough that I could do that. Thanks for that idea Bronco!

Instead of using double nuts, would the nuts with nylon inserts work better?
IMHO, I dont think they would loosen up.
