I know tires are discussed all the time, but.

I have a set of 285/70/17 open country a/t, they are going to need to be replaced in a few months and so I need to start saving.

I love the tires, except for the wear life. I rotate every oil change and I still can't get more than 20k out of them. I do pull a 40' toy hauler, but only 2-4 times a year for only 250-300 miles max. This set was put on Aug 2010. $1250 for a set of 4.

Are there other brands that have the same weight ratings that have a longer tread life? Look good and ride well? I like the more aggressive look and need it with the back roads I use almost every day.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a set of Nitto Dura Grapplers. I, too, have Toyo ATs and they wear terrible. Mine are essentially bald now at 34k. So I've gotten more out of mine than you. But still very poor IMO.

A set of 4 285-70-17 Dura's out the door will run me about $1150 I think. Made in Japan (not China like the Toyo's), same weight rating as the Toyo's at 3750lb each. And much better wear from what I've read and the research I've done. Certainly not an uber-aggressive tread design. But good on pavement and rain/snow. And that's about 95+% of my driving. And if I get 45-50k out of these, I'll gladly make that tradeoff of aggressiveness for mileage.

My truck came with hankook dynapro m/t. They looked great but the rating was a bit low for pulling a toy hauler with a srw. I replaced with the Toyos.

Not sure why I thought the grapplers and Toyos were related.

The toyos should have a mileage warranty on them. If they do, and you are under x miles you can get into a new set for almost half.

This is the only reason I bought a second set. They came with a 50k warranty and I only got 35K out of them. I got like $75 buck off each new tire. The warranty was prorated no questions asked.

How far down were the tires before you had them prorated? Bald, wear markers? I may be interested in doing that if I knew what was the proper tread left when trying.

Interesting that some people get great mileage out of the Toyo AT's while others don't. I have 25k on a set and the tread is around 10/32".

They were getting close to what I felt was replacement. Summer driving ok for winter I wanted more tread. I am sure I could have gotten several thousand more miles out of them when I got a flat. I told my tire guy that I didn't think it was worth fixing. He agreed and warranteed all 4 at that time. Of course I had to pony up the dough for a new set of tires. My second set are going to be worn right around the same mileage. I am not sure why some people get better mileage with them. I have the tire shop rotate them every 5K. I keep the air pressure constant. The tires are wearing nice and even. I do tow a heavy 5th wheel toy hauler probaly about a quarter of the time, and drive over winding mountain roads for my commute.

My 285-75-17 Dura Grapplers cost about $875 (onlinetires.com) delivered to Colorado. They say Made IN USA on the side and I think the plant is in Georgia. This is my second set and I have been very happy with them. About 55K out of the first set, only rotated a couple of times and never rebalanced. Fairly good in the snow an ice, great highway and towing tire.

I have about 18k on my nitto crosstek's and I love them, hauling very heavy loads and in the rain they are amazing, took very little weight to balance
