Thinking of selling my '05 for a new '16 or '17
Hello all, I have been thinking of getting into a new Ram 2500 after 12 years of literally no hassle out of my '05. Thing is, I have an older gentleman that approached me twice, and wants to buy my '05 in the worse way because its super clean with only 41K on the clock. I told him give me about a month because I just ordered a new exhaust and need the truck the next few weekends. I wasn't really planning on selling it, but if the price is right, I might do it. My question is, with a '16 or '17, are there any issues that I should be concerned or look out for?? I found a couple of nicley loaded ones with the gooseneck hitch and all the bells and whistles for around 55K. I just don't want to get rid of a trusty reliable truck that I've owned and get a new one that might have a bunch of concerns. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.....

From everything I have seen from them, I dont think you'll be happy with it unless you do all the deletes. I myself am kinda partial to the 05, I have had 2 of them. First one went over 300000 miles and never a problem, the current one will turn over 200000 tomorrow and still love it. Last year for the headlights that dont look like alien eyes and the last of the good 5.9, whats not to love...imo of course...

Unless you want all the new fancy electronics and gadgets I would keep your 2005. Only 41k miles on your truck? That's really cool and tells me that you aren't using your truck a lot. I would hold onto the 05.

Yeah I have a clean 06 Laramie dually with low miles.
The new ones are tempting and apparently diesel exhaust fluid trucks have been a bit less problimatic and give mileage close to what the 5.9's gave. The aisin transmission would be a huge step up from the 48rfe if you are into automatics.
For me, though, I've decided my truck does everything I need it to, and will likely continue to do so for years, so why dump 50+K on something with more emission junk that will depreciate more?

I appreciate all the input, it's a very tough decision, I mean, this man approached me twice in 4-5 months in wanting to buy my truck, and he's an older gentleman in his 70's. I know what its worth, did a KBB and Nada look-up, and it amazes me on what trucks like mine on EBay are going for, averaging about 28K-30K. I'll wait and see what offer this guy throws at me, If he's in the ball pake, I might do it, 28K is a nice down payment on a new one and the payments wouldn't be that bad. It might be the only opportunity I get to possible hop into another new one. I completely understand on getting rid of old reliable, but also, It's not too often an opportunity like this will happen again. I know a dealer will cut like 10K off the bat of what my truck is worth. Like I said, If this guy shoots me a way under price, I'll hold onto it, but if he gives me what I want, Might just have to say bye to the '05 and hello to a '16 or '17....

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
Only 41k?
So, just talking out loud, but jumping into a truck payment and getting rid of a reliable truck, that is hardly driven at that, doesn't seem practical. I understand the lure of a new ride, the new interior, new feel, etc. But gosh, you're giving up a lot to do it.
I'd tell that old man to pound sand. lol ok, not in those terms. I'd have a hard time giving up a sought after, well maintained low mileage, paid off truck of mine. I better KNOW it would be worth it.

Yeah that was kind of my feeling. The value of that 55k truck is only going to go one direction.
For that kind of money a person could keep the old truck and put a down payment on a rental property...

I've considered the same kind of upgrade - only my truck is turning 85K. I would like something more powerful, quieter and more modern. But, I'm really enjoying no payments. My real motivation would be a bit more power in towing. So, I'm considering a Smarty Jr which is less than one payment on a new truck.
