Is there a cabin filter on the 2005 Ram 2500? If so where is it located? I need to get to the bottom of the cigarette smell. Thanks
i use turtle wax carpet/interior cleaner in a spray can on my carpets/seats/fabrics in my truck the stuff works really great and pulls stains/smells out with ease.i buy 2 cans and spray everything ,i start on the drivers seating area and move around the interior counterclockwise and as soon as i'm done spraying i start vacuming ,then i use armourall magic glass wipes on the glass/plastic areas . my wife doesn't smoke but i do and she says it gets the smoke smell out quite well.
Being a smoker as well, one thing I have done is spray Febreeze in the cab when I park the truck for a while.
Iv also sprayed it in the air inlet at the bottom of the windshield and turned the fan on hi and let it run for a minute or two.
Just a thought.

Joe I have found 20 Muleteam Borax to work well in removing odors. I use it in the house,rv, and vehicles. Just sprinkle it in to the carpet and brush it in with a broom. Let sit a couple of days then vacuum.

the headliner is usually where a lot of smell is too.
my local detail guy says he has "a dry hand rub shampoo" that he could do the headliner with.
FWIW, i pull the side plastic molding at bottom of each door, and just use soapy water & scrub brush.
there is a huge area there that catches water, at the base of each door.

FWIW, that is more than likely not a filter between the cab and the bed. It should be a vent for the cabin. It is supposed to relieve pressure in the cabin when doors are shut. It is also the exhaust for air brought into the cabin by the ventilation system.
The Geno's kit will filter the incoming air to keep dust and pollen off the evaporator and out of the cabin. That would help to alleviate any mildew smell from the A/C system, but only after the evaporator is cleaned.

Smoke has tar in it. It sticks to everything it comes into contact with. I used to own a drapery business and when we pulled old drapes, out of peoples homes that smoked, they would literally stick to your hands. It does that to the clothes you're wearing and then sticks to your seats, steering wheels and anything else to touch when you get into your truck!

I bought the aftermarket cabin filter kit from Geno's.It's a plastic grill with a filter that lays over the factory grill at the base of the windshield. I couldn't get all the clips to fasten. After a mouth or two the side that wouldn't fasten started to warp up from the pressure of the filter between the grills. Then the filter itself started pushing through the top grill. Looked like one of those Geo pet things. Don't remember how much it cost but it ended up in the trash.
Smell removal
I spilled a quart bottle of "Simple Green" cleaner in my passenger seat & haven't been able to smell anything else in the truck for 3 months.
