tell me why i cant fix my blend door like this....
so my blend door has gone out....my truck has 150k so we can say its long out of warranty. it has started the cold out of the drivers side, and hot from the pass side
correct me if im wrong but, since all the bend door does is mix hot air from the heater core with cool air from the evaporator core, why cant you just install cutoffs on the heater hoses like tractors and semi trucks have? that would cancel the heat from the heater core and it wouldnt have any choice but to blow cold

There have been a few folks that have installed cutoffs to improve the cooling of the AC. I don't know if it would work or not. There's a real good thread with lots of pics about it. Maybe somebody will post the link.
i was just thinking about it today, the a/c in my log loader has the evap and heater cores stacked on top of each other....the ac WILL not work without cutting the water off to the heater core
the thing that makes this so bad, is less than 8 months ago i had the dash out to replace the evaporator core in this truck when the compressor took a crap

Take a look at this thread. It has allot of pics and might help you visualize if it will work. Let me know what you find out too.

from what i gather, i don't see any reason why my fix won't work (for fixing the one side hot one side cold issue) after i saw the pictures it jogged my memory from when i had mine apart. The way this thing works is the air is drawn in from the fan, and goes by the evaporator core, that cools the air, then is circulated to the blend door which is supposed to bypass the heater core, when its broken it can't bypass so the air mixes and you end up with hot air. If you take the heat away then it should blow coldest with the temp switch in any position.
I'm going to try it this weekend and see what happens. If my reasoning isn't way off then i will save $1000, and have a colder than stock a/c

Use the Google search that's in the advanced search feature, it will work better. There are some folks that have tried the cutoffs. If you can find the threads it'll save you some aggravation. Use the words "Heater core shut off" in the Google search. I just did and you'll get exactly what you want to know. You might want to read a few of the threads though.
PLEASE do this before you spend a bunch of money on anything. I know it sounds crazy, but it's very likely that this is your problem. My wife's truck was doing the same thing and I gave it a shot of freon and the problem went away. If it was a blend door issue, you would get the same temperature from all the vents unless you had dual zone climate control and only the passenger blend door was failing.
