Stereo Upgrade In 2005
#16
If your ok with a single din radio that will fit in easy in a 2005 . I wanted a double din touch screen.

Thats my next project is to run a backup camera . That will be awhile though I want to add a turbo first and repaint my 3500 because it was a Florida truck. No rust at all but the Florida sun peeled the clear coat off in places .

2019 solutions for head unit installs
Hey everybody. Check a couple of options that were unthinkable evven 3-4 years ago. 10" screens in the almost 20 year old trucks! I have a 10.1" XTRONS head unit in mine. It is sort of ovverkill and fancy but I love it.
Here is an example of a single DIN unit to prevent using the replacement insert for double din.
I used an insert double Din piecce that installs super easy (lots of write ups on the forums about it) and put mine in and would NEVER go back.
Search amazon for "single din android". The operating system (computer) of most of these units is a very clean android OS. User friendly and easy to use.
There are a couple for under $300 that come with a backup camera. If you want a really clean unit from a quality company, search for the Alpine Halo 9" unit. That thing is fancy but I went low buck with a 280 dollar unit and have almost a year with it. It has a few hiccups but is nice enough for me. And the screen performs well under almost all conditions. Bluetooth, screen duplication from your phone, ability to control fade and balance along with 3 USB inputs.
Here is mine:
I had a complaint and the company stood behind the product well and answered all problems thru amazon. Even offered to replace the unit for free.
On my work computer now, I'll try to load a pic of what mine looks like tonight.

I just did my 2008 3500HD dually and put in a Pioneer AVH 5800ghs with 4 infinity 60.9cs 6.5 components in all 4 doors powered by a JBL GTO804ez 4 channel amp and in the back a Fox Acoustics Dodge box under the seat with 2-12" JBL GTO S3 1224 subs powered by a JBL GTO1001ez amp and a NVX 10k Farad capacitor to ground and keep good voltage . I would suggest the Fox Acoustics sub box to anyone trying to do subs in a Ram quad or Crew . The subs and sub amp are not that powerful but the box makes them sound amazing .

The reason I went all JBL is my friend works for them as a software engineer and I got everything for cost which is dirt cheap . I only paid $750.00 for the 2 amps and 2 subs and 2 pairs of 6.5 components .
Fox box was $280.00 shipped and the NVX Capacitor was $170.00 and the 2 amp NVX 0gauge wiring kit was like $120.00 So for $1,400.00 I have a very loud and clear system .

Connotaucarius: I know this post is a couple of years old - but i am about to replace the factory radio in my 04 Quad Cab. Thanks so much for the schematic. Hopefully it matches what I have. I have yet to dig into it (truck is being repainted as I type this), but question: Did you have to cut and splice a lot of the wires, instead of using the connectors?

If you use Idatalink connector it will cost about $250 but retains the steering wheel buttons and shows gauges on your radio if its a newer radio it will have RPM, Temp , Load , Speedometer and one other and if its a newer radio you don't need to splice for a backup camera it hooks into the back of the radio. I have a Kenwood DMX706S Double Din and Aftermarket Dash kit.I also have bluetooth backup camera was real easy to install and came with a lcd screen .
