Squeaking after lock up
Squeaking after lock up
So as I was coming home from the firehouse tonight, some ****ing rice burner came flying at me in my lane - as I swerved over to the side of the road I slammed on the brakes. Unfortunately for me, I forgot that I was in 6th gear with the clutch still out ... never put it in until i stopped. I ended up swerving on the road for a bit and then landed in some snow ... no body damage or anything, trans and motor seem to be totally fine, thank God. now however, around 15 - 25 mph there is a constant squeaking coming from the front driver's side. Im puzzled as to whether it might be a ujoint, ball joint the wheel bearing, or maybe just the rotors or pads. regardless .. if anyone has any ideas before I have my mechanic take it apart tomorrow ... id appreciate it. this gets me going on people and the way they drive. maybe i shoulda hit him, haha
thanks for the help.
thanks for the help.
Was it the drivers front that hit the snow?
Put it up on a rack and check for wiggle and alignment. Could be the bearing got tweaked. Could be the axle tube or shaft got tweaked.
Could also be as simple as some road crud caught in the brake caliper.
Best of luck.

I was going to say the same thing as several have said already, "road crud", or backing plate.
But the real reason why I'm posting is to say you should of hit the _______. It would have been his fault if he crossed the center line, and if he killed himself, there would be one less idiot on the roads. One down, many more to go...
I had someone do something similar to me today, and if I wasn't paying more attention, we could have gotten rid of another one today.

funny enough, i had enough time (maybe 7 secs) to react, and my first reaction was ill slam right into him. but i wasnt wearing my seatbelt. to be perfectly honest, i wouldve smashed that rice rocket to hell if i was. i dont need to go through a winshield as a present though.

You mentioned that you were coming home from the firehouse. Are you a firefighter? And you weren't wearing your seat belt? You must not see a lot of accidents if you don't routinely wear it. I'm a retired firefighter/paramedic, and seeing what I saw, I'm a firm believer in seat belts. That and my experience while wearing one, I'll never be in a moving vehicle without it.
You're lucky that you had time to react this time, but what about next time?

nah im only 17 .. actually i haven't been a member of the company that long so you're right i havent run too many calls. interestingly, it was a freak thing, i usually wear my seatbelt on roads like the one i was on. eh, wrong place, wrong time.
Only 17... That explains it, you have Invincibility Syndrome. My 18 year old has that too. I just pray that he doesn't become somebody's hood ornament.
Come to think about it, I did too at your age. But spend 10 years on the box, and watch what you see. You'll see stuff that will cure Invincibility Syndrome very quickly. Heck, even five on a busy house will do it.
