Smarty Jr - still worth picking up?

Still worth picking up a Smarty Jr for a stock 06?

I know about EFI but ~$300 is easier to do on a used unit I scram across in classifieds

There are undoubtedly better tuners out there, but for the money a Smarty Jr is hard to beat. I have had mine for several years and it is set on the lowest setting (40 HP). It has reduced my EGT's 200-250 degrees when towing 10,000 #. Also, my truck passes the Calif. smog test when the tuner is turned back to stock, which is easy to do.

Hmm ok.
I'm still thinking about it. Truck runs like a top right now and I'd hate to have the Jr contribute to a demise lol
Appreciate your thoughts.

With an '06 I'd get the EFI. Cleaner tune and smoother acceleration. Same lowered egt's.
I've had them both. The five position switch is handy for instantaneous settings.
Mine's from Anarchy.

I have been thinking the same thing as I have found myself commuting again 100 miles a day and wondering if a Smarty Jr would get me more mpg and be worth the cost. I am also scared of changing my truck from stock as it seems like all the problems I read about usually lead back to a tuner.

Looking at Anarchy's wesite, that's gonna be the Autocal that you have right?
What position you normally keep it on?

I keep it at 90 hp and yes it's an Autocal. Tune levels are slick with the switch.
I use the power sparingly but it's there when I need it.
The truck will barely smoke at 6000ft where my Smarty would blacken the guy behind me.
