Shock Recommendation???

Hello Everyone, new to the site and thought i start by asking for shock recomendations for my truck! My truck is a 2003, 25004x4 single cab with 5.9L with 101,000 miles with what i believe are the original shocks that i would like to upgrade. Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Karry

Welcome to DTR!!

If you are stock and just using it as a daily driver or weekend tower I would recommend Bilsteins. That is what most on here run including me. Look at Genos garage. Here >>>> http://www.genosgarage.com/products.asp?dept=163

A little internet searching may find them for a few dollars cheaper but I have ordered many things from Genos and always get great service so that is where I bought mine.

I know lots of folks on here swear by Bilsteins but when I replaced my factory shocks (6 yrs ago ) money was a little tight so I opted for the Monroe Reflex shocks and they have done really well, although they are in dire need of replacing now. Everyone has their own opinion but the vast majority do end up using the Bilstein line of shocks.....obviously the company is doing something right.

Man, now you have me wanting to go replace my shocks today. Better let the purchase of more gauges cool off with the wife a little first .

I have the Bilstein yellow and blue, just their HD line. They felt great as soon as I put them on, not stiff, just firm and better bounce control.

When I replaced my shocks, initially I went with Monroe. 3 days past warranty they started to leak . I then went with bilsteins and have not looked back. German engineered and they just work.

Persoanlly, I think you are making a wise choice here. I have heard nothing but good things about the Bilstein 5100s (I will be going with these here shortly). Whatever you do, don't go the route I did....

About 3 years ago when I had death wobble problems really bad and didn't know the cure, I went first to replacing the front shocks. I hadn't done my research (unlike yourself) and went with some fairly cheap Pro-Comp 9000s. They are awful...it's like driving a dump truck! In short, you certainly get what you pay for!

This shock upgrade to my truck is one that I have desperately been looking forward to! Good Luck and let us know once you have them on and your feedback!

I like the way my Bilstein 5100's ride but as for the finish it is crap IMHO. After one winter on the truck they went from nice shiney silver to a crusty hazy white. One of these days I'll get under there, pull them off, and paint them or something. If I had to do it again I would either go with the yellow 4600's or put a few coats of clear on the 5100's before installing them. For what they cost the finish really didn't hold up well at all IMHO.

The Fox Performance series are aluminum.... They will never rust... ever. Plus they run cooler.

Retail on the Fox performance series is $127 each. Little more than a bilstien, but not a fortune.
