Rust bubbles in wheelwells.. warranty or not?

was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. the bubbling started out as one small bubble and now it goes around most of my wheelwell only on the rear driver's side. the one bubble actually looks like it has a pinhole in the center of it.. would this be considered a rust through issue even though it only looks like a pinhole? i am guessing the warranty will probably not cover it. i also prefer not to have my bedside painted and will be putting fender flares on so i'd like to get it fixed soon. any ideas out there?

Don't know about the warranty. But one option since your adding flares, if the rust will be hidden behind the flare, sand as much as you can, apply a product called Rust Bullet and spot paint it to seal it up. Then add your flare over the touch-up.

I noticed the same thing on my 2004, one little bubble on the passengerside wheel well. it is about the size of a pencil eraser. I was going to contact the dealer but haven't gotten around to it yet, just laziness on my part. This is the only spot on my truck that is starting to bubble. the area where my mud flaps rubbed the paint don't even have any rust on them. i do have alittle starting near the spot welds under the rocker panels. Mine is doing the same thing. Torques me off every time I see it. My old 1994 Chevy is still on the road, and it isn't rusted, other than the wheels. The body is solid. I have yet to take it in to have it looked at.

So whats up with these 3 and 4 yr old trucks and rust? I bought a 07 5.9 to replace a 10 yr old truck that just started to rust, I live by the ocean and salty air is a constant thing here, what can I do to prolong the rust worms?

My 02 Dakota did the same thing. Dealer would not cover it; it's their truck now so I didn't have to have it fixed. Ohio road salt

similiar problem behind front tires under the both driver and passenger doors, dealer said its stone chips. But I can flake off pieces of paint the size of a quarter. No warranty coverage, getting fixed the 20th. $400.00.

there is a PERFORATION warranty I think it is about 60/100000 but a may vary from vehicle to vehicle. if you want to know your warranty PM me your VIN and mileage. I can pull up a VIP for yu with your warranty coverage.

I'm happy to say that despite the terribly harsh winters here in San Diego....no rust bubbles so far.

isb.. you are correct about the 60/100,000 warranty as well as the perforation issue, as stated in the warranty book. my truck only has 25K on it right now (3 yrs. old). it sounds like the problem is what a dealer designates as a "perforation"? sounds like a pretty disputable term! i will take to the local dealer when i get my 265's back on for a ruling on it i guess.. those 35" M/T's may convince them it was caused by stone chips..(although i don't think that is the problem)

I looked last week at my 01 and I THINK I might have some surface rust starting on my drive shaft.....

...Isn't there a TSB about moving to Arizona?

No Luck

Coobie,
The rust is coming from the inside and bubbling out. I have taken it to a body shop and they told me it was a factory defect and I should see my dealer. Well the dealer told me the paint warranty only covers rust through AKA holes and it leave it alone until that happens and hope it happens in the next 2 years. I was less than satisfied with this response so I called dodge direct. They told me the same thing as the dealer. They actually called the dealer and asked him about it. They recommended I take it to another dealer for a second opinion. He said the same thing. Do you guys have any recommendations as to what to do? The estimate to fix it was $4000 because the have to replace the bedsides since the problem is from the inside.

What would you all do?
Buy a new truck?
Paint it and put flares on it and repaint every year?
Leave it rusty and hope it pops through in the next two years? (I don’t think I can handle that!)

Sorry about the rant but I expected that Dodge would stand by their product!

Thanks guys,
John
