On my 2004 cummins I noticed that the reverse lights wont shut off, even when it isnt running and the key is off. I didnt do any kind of wiring or anything. All the wiring is all stock. Any ideas, for now I took the bulbs out so my battery wouldnt go dead.

You have probably shut the engine off in reverse and left the key in the ignition. If you do that in mine thye stay on until you remove the key from the ignition. Hope this helps

Well I can try that but I dont think thats the problem. I took it for a drive today and the lights stayed on the whole trip.

power is provided to the backup switch (manual) or the transmission range sensor (auto) either one could be "stuck" on.

if you have a manual, i would pull the plug and see if the lights go out.

I did that, I pulled the plug off of the sensor on the transmission and the lights stayed on. I can shut the truck off and remove the key and they are still on. Its a manual transmission.

Sorry if late, but is your cargo light turned on? I've accidentally bumped the cargo light and thought it was the reverse lights staying on, but then I noticed the over the bed light was also on.

I checked that also, I am going to do some more messing around with it this weekend when I have more time.

I would take apart the trailer connector and have a look inside it. Sounds like a wire may have come off in there and is jumping power from the 12v wire to the reverse light wire.

I can't see the reverse light switch being shorted because that circuit should only be powered with the key on.
