Replacing dash lamps with LED's

I had a lamp out in my dash and, based on a few posts here on DTR and elsewhere on the interwebs, I decided to to "upgrade" all if the lamps to LED's from Superbrightleds.com. I selected the B8.4D in green.

My overall impression is that they are just ok. The uniformity of the illumination is not nearly as good as the stock incandescent lamps and the color is an EMERALD GREEN that matches the turn indicator arrows, but I was hoping for something a little closer to the stock BLUE GREEN. Also these LED's don't dim as well as the incandescent bulbs do... dimmed all the way down, they are still pretty bright. The good news is that at $1.59 per LED (x 11 of 'em), this is a very cheap and easy mod'.

Since the LED's are polarized, before installing them I tested and marked each one's negative side with a dot from a black Sharpie. The photo below shows the polarity of each of the lamps on the back of the cluster. Hopefully this will be useful to somebody.

Notice the uneven illumination (for example the 0 vs. the 110 on the oil press gauge)... and it's even more obvious to the naked eye than it is in the photo.

There's a pretty good chance I'll be going back to the stock incandescent bulbs in the near future.
Anybody here know of a good source for replacement gauge cluster lamps ?

Cheers,
-Mark

Well... five years later and I still hated the LEDs. So tonight I switched them back to the stock incandescent lamps (Mopar p/n 4839738AA).
Much happier with the nice even illumination of the factory setup.
Lesson learned.

Did you have any issues with them fitting in the sockets loose . I had bought some from the same place and it the bulb was loose in the socket.

Yeah, the LEDs were loose... after installation I put a drop of hot melt glue on each one to hold it in place.

I've use them before, I wasn't impressed.

I used autoillumination, they were a little better, I think.

Good info and pics, tho.
