Repairing Scratches On Interior Plastics
Repairing Scratches On Interior Plastics
Hello, guys. I inadvertently caused some scratches on my glove compartment door. The color of the door is gray and the scratches are white. Is there any kind of touch-up paint available that can be used on plastic? Thanks...
there is no touch up specificlty for that because it is colored plastic if it is just like a hairline scratch you can try to use dome heat like a blow dryer or heat gun and get it hot but not melt it but come pretty close to and try to rub it while it is hot and soft to get rid or the whitish look.
get a can of the interior spray paint (from genos garage or another dealer) that is used to paint piller gauge pods and the like. it is a great match. i would spray some on a piece of cardboard or something, then use a small brush to paint the scratches.

Do not use paint, there in no way to match across the entire dash.
Use a razor knife to remove any obvious loose curls or high sharp ridges. Then use something hard and blunt to push the high spot down (back of a ball peen hammer). If it is cold then use heat from a hair dryer but be very careful. Use just enough heat to make the require changes. Then buff with your favorite vinyl protectant.
The white look is basically melted plastic where it scratched. You can get rid of most of that but you may still have a little bit of a mark when done and using the above suggestions.
Good luck and post a picture of the before and after if you can.

i wasn't saying to paint the entire dash. only to apply it (by small brush, like at artists brush) to the individual scratches. and the paint will match fine. does your gauge pillar not match your dash? because i've seen them match to near perfection.
Thanks for the replies, fellas. I'll check with the dealer on this (which I probably should have done in the 1st place). I like the idea of using spray paint on cardboard and using that for a fine touch-up. I'll try to post a (before) picture here if the pic turns out OK.

Before I owned my current truck, the previous owner had some a/mrkt stereo stuff in it. There had to have been thirty or more "pry" marks and scratches all over the lower console and center bezel areas
. I have replaced the lesser costing panels and used a razor knife to smooth out the rest. They even did tweeters in the upper triangles of the door panels. Cut in two different places, and looks like cut with a dremel
. I bought two of tthe hitch ball plugs from the bumper and the interior paint from Mopar. Close match but not quite exact. Luckily the rest of the truck outweighed those minor imperfections
