Remote starter on a 6 speed manual?

From the other thread just posted, I've been thinking a remote starter would be nice on the ole Dodge. Does the OEM kit have provisions for use on a manual trans (no start if in gear and clutch safety switch overridden)?
Won't put one on if it doesn't have a no start feature linked to the trans somehow, because I finally got my wife in the habit of putting it in gear when parked and she drives it most of the time.
If not OEM, any aftermarket systems that work with a manual trans?

It can start in gear. Can't start without the clutch pushed in though and that clutch safety switch would have to override with the remote start. That leaves the possibility of starting in gear if you don't remember to put the shifter in neutral.

From personal experiance, it WILL start in gear! I had one on my 98 3500 dually. it was AWESOME altyhough i did have to overide the clutch switch.

Only 1 problem with that........ One night at the bar, i started it..... it WAS in first (low) gear. I had backed into the parking spot when i parked so when it did start, it started its way OUT of the parking spot and making its way right towards the rear of the COP CAR parker in the front row!!! I couldnt get it to shut off.......and i about um.... well no way to put this nicely. It scared me a little bit

Finally got it off INCHS before the 35" Muds on the rear slowly crawled their way up and over the cops trunk!! WOW!!!!

You learn REAL quick to pull it out of gear everytime! The cop was actually out there watching the whole thing (i knew him) and he just laughed at me. Although he DID inform me that if my truck would have run into his car, even with me not present, I would have been ticketed for=.......... crap i cant remember what he called it now..... but it was a rather large ticket. PLUS, in a worse case, if it were to hit/run somewhere over, it could be involentary manslaughter.

So that being said, you CAN install one on your manual, But with risk. Also, many companys wont install it FOR you for the same reasons.

i've heard rumor out there that there IS a starter that uses your clutch switch as a safty device. When you leave the vehical, you depress the clutch 3 times, or actually start the truck once or something, so the starter knows its out of gear. Then it will work, otherwise it wont.

Anyways. hope i helped.

A long time ago I had my wife's Exploder in a shop getting an alarm system installed. A kid working there was demoing his car to a potential customer when he hit the remote start. The car took off and rammed a power pole. I kid you not!

If there is no provision on the transmission for a neutral switch don't do it.

Actually, its really pretty easy, get an alarm thats manual safe.

The ONLY way you can use remote start is by following the exit procedure and leaving the truck while running, and it shuts down by timer/button after doors are shut. If you unlock the truck or open a door, it disables the remote start so you cant accidently put it in gear.

I love my Clifford alarm w/remote start
Most of the nicer alarms have manual trans safe systems now, Clifford has for many years now. Whatever you do, take it to a reputable shop that you can trust to not cut corners, dont just "rig" it up to bypass the clutch pedal switch. With the clifford its only "bypassed" for that brief second when remote starting, other than that if I hop in, still have to push it down to start it.

[****&vinegar]Do you also ride your Rascal to pick up the mail and the daily paper?

Remote start is for lazy people that need a swift kick from reality.

"But it is cold."

That is why you should get in and start it. Then, while it warms up you could shovel the driveway and warm yourself up. [/****&vinegar]

This coming from someone in Kentucky! hahahaha
When's the last time it was -25 at your house? (-10 this morning and it's not even winter!)
BTW the truck has a home in the garage at night and my wife can't run out and start the truck while she's drawing someone's blood or giving them an immunization at work, but she can push the button!

And W T F is a Rascal?

So Clifford makes one that's manual trans safe. Any others?
Does the OEM one work like that?
I'm gonna pass on the swift kick from reality and go for lazy!

Compustar

I have a 2 way remote compustar put in my truck a few years ago. Like posted , there is a specific shutdown order you must follow. kinda a pain if you need to get in the truck later cause youll have to restart it... but better than the alternative of having your truck take off. Basically you put on the e brake, keep foot off brake, put it in neutral, turn off the key, exit vehicle and lock doors. If the doors are unlocked before remote start, it will no longer function. Obviously dont try to lock a younger child or even a pet inside as they might put it in gear if your say running into the store for 5 minutes. not that you should or would...
Anywas its a great alarm, has built in turbo timer, and a quarter mile range two way remote that will let me know if its going off.
