Relocated block heater cord

I finally got around to relocating my heater cord. Nice clean install and no more cord hanging out the front. I am sure plenty of folks have done something similar but for those who hadn't seen it, I have pics in my gallery.

Great Idae Man!! I have my cord, but havn't installed it yet. I don't have front tow hooks, so I'm thinkin' that plug can go in my plastic insert where the hooks would be. Did you have to cut the end of your cord, and splice into that plug?? Also, would you mind telling me where I can purchase one of those plugs??

I have a bad back, and to me, If I did what you did, but only where my tow hooks would be, It would be ideal, easy access, clean look, and no bending for the ole' back!!

Good job, nice and clean!!

I don't know if this is the same one he got, but here is one that will probably hook up similarly. I doubt im going to mess with it as warm as the weather is here in TX....but I found it in the Geno's magazine and thought it was a cool idea.

Actually that appears to be the same connector, however it's about half that price. I purchased it from www.boatfix.com. It is a part number 150bbi.

It is a simple connector. yes you have to cut the end off of the cord but there are only three wires to hook up. just strip some insulation back and insert the wire in the hole provided and tighten the screw. You could mount it just about anywhere. I chose to there because when not in use, you can't even see it unless you bend over and look under the front plate. if you mount it where the tow hooks are, you will probably need to make some kind of bracket. This was simple, I drilled out a 1 7/8 hole and installed the connector and tightened down.

good luck

This is what I've been looking for (not very hard mind you) since I picked up my truck. Did you go through the metal part of the bumper, or the plastic part?

Just the plastic part. If you get it too close to the bottom of that plastic part, you will have trouble getting it to lie flat because of the shape of the plastic. if you go to high, you might have trouble getting the cord in after you have the license plate back on. I actually had mine a little low and to get it to lie flat I used the dremel a little.

the cord is just the factory cord. it is longer than everyone thinks because they have it looped and zip ties up under the air box. Just clip the zip tie and then pull out the holder thats beside the radiator. the cord is like 6 ft long I think.

How much does the plastic give when you attempt to plug it in with just one hand, pressing into the plug/plastic? How about pulling it out with one hand?

Looks nice.

I did mine and used a 7 pin trailer harness plug, gutted it and put in a male 3 pronged connection. I aslo used a female connection to plug into the existing block heater plug incase I ever want to remove the BOMBED plug.

Thanks Guys.
The plastic is pretty darn firm. I don't think it is going to be any problem. I have used it a couple times just to test it and I don't rip it out, but I don't baby it either.

They never made a 440 Duster, but it does have a 440 in it. The stripes were made.

take care

I did mine the same way the week I bought the truck. Its nice for hiding it and easy to get to. The plastic air dam has no problems holding it when you jerk it out. I used a chrome metal housing with a o-ring seal on the spring loaded cover. Its easy to get to and hides it nice.
