New steering is an order of magnitude better, stronger, more road feel/control. "Should" last longer, if (big if) you get good joints in there at some point. Like I said, my first inner tie rod must have been defective as far as I could tell.

Not at this time - OEM only. Moog is making the tie rods, but the linkage is a Mopar part.

This is a good upgrade, I would not hesitate to recommend it.

i just got off the phone with xrf, and the ball joints are on the way. any idea how much this new steering from dodge costs all together? and does the dealer need to put it on, or can i do it myself?

thanks

I think the steering setup runs around $300 more-or-less, depending where you get it. I believe you are the only one to judge whether or not you can do the work yourself.

Actually one manufacturer does.

My local dealer wants $548 for everything needed. 4 ends, links, damper, pitman are, and nuts and bolts. The damper is $146.
Does that seem high for this kit? anywhere you have thats cheaper? aftermarket dampers you recommend for similar cost?

Anyone know or have some idea of what would have to be modified to adapt these 08 parts to a 94. would the cross link bolt up to the knuckles on the 94 which is the same as 95, 96 and peraps newer. I gather that somebasid changes occurred in 03 (trackbar I know about, anythng else i do not know.

If the cross bar would fit I think I could cobble up parts to finish the lashup to the steering box and the damper.

My linkages all need to be replaced and it would be great to improve the steering of this truck.

Update for those that have yet to make the switch, since my old damper was still good, i used my 6" bench vise, pressed out the old bolt bushing, took some measurements, and ordered energy suspension bushing part number 9.9105 the bushing OD is perfect for eyelet ID, and the sleeve is only .030 larger than the new bolt which i will solve with some electrical tape. I sanded the old damper and hit it with some spray paint truck bed liner. It looks better than brand new. I will post some pics if anyone is interested. Saved me $140!
BTW bushing can be had here - http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...sp?prod=9.9105

most likely it comes up as needed for inspection, then they will decide if they need to replace the steering.

Are we still thinking this is a good upgrade? My inner tie rods have some looseness. The local shop says he sees this on a ton of dodges and puts spicer ends on without issue (two year warranty $300 in parts). He wants $500 total parts an labor and doesn't see the reason for an OEM quality upgrade. Dealer wants $880 to do the upgrade (AF parts). I do run 315 tires, highway tread on H2s and think perhaps the upgrade would be the better route, but wanted to double check here first. I do no off roading. I'm going to shop around a bit Monday, but don't think I'll find a much better price for the upgrade. OEM upgrade or spicer replacement?

Help, need clarification

I'm so confused, hoping someone can help clarify this whole mess. I have an 05' got the H46 recall for sterring linkage. Took it in to dealer they looked at it and said I have the right parts and don't need anything. Then I read on here some 05's are getting replacement parts. What is supposed to be done? Is the dealer screwing me out of replacement or what? My front end is rapidly wearing out to a point where it "floats" all over the place. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Well a lot of it boils down to the dealer you went to..

Technically the recall was over the way the steering shock was attached to the system. Some parts that were replaced by the dealer could have been defective (they did not track this that is why they did the recall) If you have the dreaded death wobble or failing parts within the warranty period you got the new parts installed free..

Here is what I found with a search for Dodge TSB #22-005-06
