Recall: STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY 2008-2009 Dodge Ram HD

Wonderful. Can't wait to see how many reports we get about those marvelously conscientious dealers refusing to see pre '08 trucks because the recall does not apply to them. And looking at you with that weird deer-in-the-headlights stare after you explain that you cannot buy anything "but" those parts for the older trucks at most places anymore. I wonder if Joe's corner repair shop will honor the recall.

Just freakin' wonderful.

I can't believe it,they finally come up with something that works-and it's crap too...Must..drink....heavily

I guess those who tried to get the upgrade to the new parts will be better off??? You bet!!!!!

Better to have to deal with the sub-standard stuff than the new and improved, at least you know when something will need looking after and fixed rather than both you and your truck in the doctor's office after an immediate loss of steering.

You have got to be kidding me. Fedex just dropped off my new defective linkage this morning. I followed that thread for month on the new linkage and finally decided to pull the trigger the day they recall it, awesome!!

Wonder if dodgeparts.com will give me a refund, or if the dealer will replace the bad components?? Glad i decided to drink beer and not remove the old linkage last night...

I'm not worried about mine. My dealer made mention of something to the effect, though I wasn't paying attention, and now it makes sense in hind sight. I believe what I heard was the parts that went on mine are not the production pieces. The tech inspected them (hell, I even held the pieces myself before they went on) nonetheless. And, he has the damper attachment u-bolts on tight. The bolts put on at the factory were installed on an assembly line by the UAW.

Besides, how many lift kits use that style of attachment? And, don't forget... the recall was put into effect by the same folks that were the cause of my horn now beeping if I open my door too quickly after I throw it in Park. Those of you who are familiar with that recall know exactly what I'm talking about. Thank God that service writer is no longer a member of my dealership's team, I felt like knocking the guy cold.

I wonder how to tell if the non-production pieces we've been putting on the earlier trucks are defective?

I sent emails to Dan at dodgeparts.com and another local dealer to check the 52122362AE part # for the linkage and see if it is involved in the recall. No word yet, in fact nobody has heard of the H36 recall. Sounds like Dodge hasn't fully let the cat out of the bag on this one yet....

Looking at my new linkage sitting in the garage its hard to believe they have been failing when it makes the old linkage look like car parts.

Also found this: http://www.aboutautomobile.com/Recal.../Ram/09E001000

It says "The part numbers of the affected assemblies is 52122362aa through 52122362ad"

So I guess that means the 52122362ae most people got is not involved??

Ace 01-26-2009 03:22 PM

Can't wait to get home and check those #s....

If you can verify that it sure would make my wallet happy!!!! I've got the AE.

Once again my procrastination has saved me some heartache! I thought about getting the new steering setup but never got around to it.

I will later though!

mitternocht 01-26-2009 05:03 PM

This is just great, :o I have the 52122362AB "steering kit"[verymad].

bradler 01-26-2009 06:16 PM

Did anyone ever figure out what the difference was in the AB and AE other than the price?? Maybe they did change something else on the linkage that will become clear with the recall, but if it was just the part number i could still see this applying to all the new and apparently not improved, beefier but weaker, downgraded steering kits. Dan at dodgeparts.com got back to me saying that they cannot find any info yet on H36. This sucks, wonder how many of these steering kits there are on pre 08-09 now that don't seem to be covered under the recall??

My 52122362AB pictures are in this post:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=220996&page=4

If any one with the 52122362AE sees a difference let us know.

The recall says the bad parts came from Powers and Sons.

http://www.powersandsonsllc.com/

I thought I saw a post where someone said the 52122362AE came from another manufacturer.
