Prodigy Brake Controller
Prodigy Brake Controller
I have 2006 3500 QC CTD and installed a prodigy brake controller to us ewith my 1999 Coleman Bayside. The prodigy works fine when in reverse, but when driving forward, it gives me the "OL" error code (over load). This is intermittent, and the tech for prodigy says I may have a short in the line to the electric brakes. has anyone else had problems with prodigy brake controllers on 2006 Ram?
I have the Prodogy on my 2002 and love it. I have had no problems with it. Try unplugging the controller and read resistance between the brake wire going out and ground with the trailer unplugged. If it is anything but open, you have a short in the truck. If it is open, do the same measurement on the trailer plug and see how much resistance you have to ground. It should be small on the trailer, but should not be completely zero, you will be reading across the brakes. See if that helps. Sounds like you have a short that comes in and out with bumps on the road to me. Does that ring any bells? Just trying to help.
I have the Prodigy on my '06 2500 as well and have nothing but great things to report about its ease of installation, set-up and use.
I'd check the resistance on the line to the brakes and make sure none of the wires have chaffed under the trailer chassis.
Good luck!

Good advice, check the wiring. Have had a prodigy on both my 98' CTD and now on my 07' CTD. Had the same 'code' before. Checked the underside of my trailer and found everything was correct, no bare wires or shorts, but still had that same code.
Ended up taking the drums off and lo and behold one of the wires on one brake inside the wheel had been rubbing against the hub, so it was just a matter of time before the insulation wore off and it shorted out.
I had just done a brake job the month before.

yesterday, I decided to check the wiring to see if there was a short somewhere. I almost didn't check - had decided to use my old voyager controller, but ... Anyway, popped off the left wheel and the brake wire had become lodged btween 2 piece of metal and was almost worn completely through. Fixed the fefect and the Prodigy works great ... so far. Thanks for the suggestions.
