Procedure for removing pitman arm
I'm in the process of removing the old steering linkage and installing the new 08.5 steering. I'm wondering what is the best procedure for removing the pitman arm?
Is it best to remove it first before disconnecting the tie rod ends or after? It sure is a stubborn son of a gun. I have a pitman arm puller and keep hitting it with my impact wrench hoping one of these time it will break free.
I've soaked it with PB Blaster repeatedly. Not sure what else I can do at this point. Any tips or info is greatly appreciated.

Agree with the heat. Mine wouldn't budge even with a pro quality arm puller without heat.
I tend to use propylene gas vs. propane. Gets much hotter, faster which prevents heat from getting into other items, like you ps box seals.
Also, lightly tap aroud the outside of the pitman to try to break the corrosion once heater. Lightly!!!

One of the best rust busters available is a 50:50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Soak it in that for while.
Loose the retainer nut down to the bottom of the shaft, but don't remove it. Put the pitman arm puller in place, and put some stress on it.
Use two hammers, and whack the sides of the pitman arm, at right angles to the sector shaft.
Be careful. Once it pops off, that puller is going to try and fly off. Use a couple of zip ties or some string to tie it in place so it doesn't hit you in the face.
