Pro Comp Tires vs Nitto/Toyo
Well a couple weeks ago I was convinced due to your input that I wanted the Nitto Terra Grapplers 295x70x17... So contacted a few online places and one local tire place that can order them. Pricing is pretty close for the best online and the local if you factor in the cost for installing mail order tires locally.
He had to put them on order as there is a 2 week wait but tried to get me to buy Pro Comp All Terrains...told me I could get 5ea for $950 out the door.
How do these tires compare and what say you experts.... ??

I ran the PC AT's for a while before Interco came out with a 10 ply 37"....I put about 20-30K on them before I went back to Swampers and sold them to a buddy. They rode fine and they wore very well, they almost looked new when I sold 'em.
The down side (to me) is that they're an all terrain tire, and they perform like one. They absolutely suck in any kind of mud or soft dirt....

I sure wish Bridgestone made a size other than OEM for our 17 inch wheels...as my all terrain duelers worked great in all conditions....not a mud bogger tire but were good for cross section of sand, mud, snow...

i am running the pro comp a/t`s and i love em they are wearing like iron ride very smooth, balanced perfect, and i have been up the mountians with a trailer loaded w/ quads in about 3 inchs of mud and they worked great for me...also had em in about 8 inches of snow and the really did well there too....plus they have a 50,000 mile tread life warranty
Brock, I also went the Nitto Grappler way last week and was told the same 2 week lead. I checked around and all the internet dealers are out of them also. I'm waiting. The PC's are smaller, and the Nittos have had very good write-ups lately. That and the local guys I'm buying from said they have never seen one take more than 5oz. of TOTAL weight to balance. WHY DO THE JAPANESE PRODUCE BETTER QUALITY THAN US??? They are doing 4 out the door with full road hazard warranty/pro-rated buy back after 2 years for $800.
PS...leaving for Fripp Is. in 2 weeks...wife always wants to do the Charleston and Savannah day trips....last year I had to take the former truck..F350 CC 4x4 PSD because I did a few days in the race car at Roebling, and sight seeing in historic Charleston down those brick streets in a big truck ain't fun.

Due to being in a pinch, I ended up getting 4 Nitto MUD grapplers- which are quite aggressive, size 35x12.50 R18. Anyway much to my amazement the worst one took 3 ounces of weight to balance...they ride smooth as glass. I will say they make a lot of noise on the highway, but other than that they are great. They are unbelievable in the snow.

Im seriously considering the toyo MT's for my next tire, if I decide to go bigger.. the only thing stopping me is the price. The Nitto's are nice, but expect them to wear fast.

I worked a deal to trade my 03 DRW for a 06 SWR 3500. So I went to Swhabey yesterday and they rounded me up a set 35/1250/17 Toyo M/T's for the 06.Pretty expensive but I have Cooper/Dean STX's on the DRW and they are way louder than my buds Toyo mt's. They also made a hell of a deal on the leveling kit installed. He had to pull some strings to get the Toyo's transfered from another store out of state.
What are you going to be using them for?
The best tires I've experienced are the Toyo M-55's. These are what we were using on our company trucks until the 17" rims came out in '05 (Ford). I have Cooper Discoverer ST's on my company truck right now. They don't compare whatsoever to the M-55's as far as all around hiway, snow, ice, mud, gravel, dort, and sand - general beat 'em up oilfield use - and are less punture resistant.
Keep in mind I'm always travelling between the hiway and the backroads. I have found that the Toyo M-55's have provided the best wear to traction ratio in all conditions. They even have better ice / snow traction and wear than the current Coopers.
I can't wait until I burn the Coopers off so I can get back to the better M-55 now that they're available.
Maybe it's my twisted sense of logic, but unless you're running offroad "all or 80%+" of the time, why a mud terrain tire?

my truck is my daily driver M-F and then during hunting seasons (turkey, deer, etc) it is a weekend work and woods truck...so highway, sand and mud can all be seen in one day.
I prefer all terrains but some all terrains are really not all terrain unless you live around pavement and sand only...a little mud and the clog up and are worthless.
So looking for long wear, good highway manners and a semi-aggressive tread for my weekend hunting and camping excursions.
