Plow/LED Tail light issues
Last year while plowing I burned up two wiring harnesses for my LED tail lights whenever I had the plow on my truck. Running light would work, but turn signal/brake light would not work. Seems as though each time the parking lights were on for a few hours, either one of the tail lights would stop working and I would get the dreaded "lamp out" ding. However, with no lights on at all, lamp out does not come on. Anyone have an idea as to how I can correct this? I really don't want to put the stock tail lights back on because I bought the LED's to be seen better by other drivers. Seems that in NJ, when people see a large blue truck with a yellow light backing out of a parking lot, they speed up. Go figure........

Forgot to mention that the plow is a Western UltraMount and the tail lights are DEPO, if that helps.

Are they drawing too much current? Are you really burning up the wiring?
|
J, I am not literally burning up the wiring for the tail lights, but as I stated above, the turn/brake light will not work anymore, only the running light. Could it be that the tail lights are not drawing enough current and that is causing them to burn out?

Does this happen if your not plowing and you have the lights on for a long period of time? It almost sound as like there is a problem with the LED units heating up. Once it sits, do they start working again? Do you have any resistors put in with the LED taillights?
|
I don't have resistors on my lights, and I don't wait longer to see if they work again. I had two extra wiring harnesses that I swapped out for the bad ones. What are the resistors and what do they do?

Some were having Lamp Out trouble with LED taillights and had to install a resistor to imitate the lamps load. I am not familiar with those LED lights you have.

Where can I get resistors for my tail lights? Are they a pain in the neck to install? I ask because I am not really good at electrical stuff, especially splicing wires.....

Try search feature? I think you have a different problem. I would just ditch the lights and go back to stock.
