Payload
Payload
Hello guys. Great site. I have an 06 1500 I want to upgrade. Im looking for the most payload in a quad cab. After looking at Dodges website it would appear the QC dually 3500 has a payload of 4820 lbs.? While the QC short bed SRW has a payload of 3130 lb.? Am I reading the correctly? I would like to get a SRW, but it Im assuming only the duallys are rated at the 12,200 GVW. SRW GVW at 10,100 lbs. And for the life of me I can not find a 3500 2 door SRW truck. I'm guessing they dont exist. So basically, as far as payload, the 3500 dually is the way to go, correct? Thanks in advance.
On second thought it would appear the 3500 QC long bed SRW is rated at 11500 and the dually at 12200. So the payload on the SRW is 4820 based on the standard long bed curb weight. Can someone straighten me out. Sorry for all the questions.

For the highest payload,a dually is the way to go. The extra set of tires ups the payload.
The wheels and tires on the SRW are the limiting factor. The rear axle rating is 6400lbs because of the tires rating. The 11.5" rear axle on the 3rd gens is actually rated by AAM at almost 11,000lbs.
My SRW has a payload of 2900lbs. Thats the trucks actual weight (7200 scaled) subtracted from the 10,100lbs GVWR.

It all depends on what you are hauling.
Me...A slide-in cabover truck camper that weighs 3200lb. That puts my gvw at 10800, against a GVWR of 11500. Full water, propane, and diesel; no food. Empty, no camper, my truck weighs in at 7600.
See sig for my truck. Yes, payload indicates >4klb. But What I've learned is that you need airbags. With >40psi in the bags, I can get the axle off the bump stops and have a decent ride.
Can the truck handle more...Oh, Yeah!
What is it you want to haul?

Thanks for all the tips. Mostly mulch, and top soil from time to time. Im hoping to get an aluminium dump insert and haul 5 yards of mulch at a time or 2 yards of top soil. Wont be everyday basis. I know most the trucks can handle that, I just want to buy a truck thats going to last a while. Im leaning toward a 2 door dually. Not having any luck locating one in Jersey. Or many new diesels at all for that matter. Most I find online are south.
Haha, yea...I liked the dealer I bought my current truck from, but they were going out business regaurdless so they weren't pushy at all. I might head out today while they are closed and then go the email route. Thanks everyone for the help.
