Overhead is off 3mpg??? Is that Normal?

On the last tank full the overhead read 17.8 and my hand calculated was 14.6. The truck was completely stock. Since then I have installed a ZXT 2 and will check again. Is this normal with most trucks?

Yep, your mileage seems normal. I'm getting about a half-mile per gallon better than you right now, but it's not enough to brag about. But my overhead is only off by about 1.5 mpg versus hand calculated. The overhead in my F-250 was almost dead on. I miss it being correct, but then again I guess we'd just be ticked all the time at the real mpg displayed instead of when we're at the pump fillin' up.

Is there a flash for the EVIC that will correct this issue and/or others?

Yup, mine is off by at least 2 mpg. I asked the dealer about it and they said that it will get better, that the computer needs to learn the driver. Guess I shouldn't have wasted my breath! Also, according to them, there is no flash for it.

I'm usually off by about 2 mpg as well. I have an excel spreadsheet for mileage I made up. I put a column in there to calculate percent difference between the overhead and my hand calcs. The overhead usually ranges between 8% and 11% higher than the hand calc.

On the last tank I got 19.3 mpg hand calc, my average so far is about 18.5 mpg. I could tell a big difference when I added the Smarty, it jumped from ~16 to 18 mpg in one tank. Of course driving like Papaw helps too!

it amazes me, even though my MPG is SOOO optimistic, when i change it to miles til empty, its usually pretty accurate. i guess some of you have the instant mpg instead of the miles til empty though.

Interesting. I know mine is out factory, but I thought it got real stupid after installing tunes with the predator. I notice you run a predator as well. I always thought they used the fuel guage to monitor the overhead which was why they were so off, but I have no idea what runs them.
