OBD II Scanner?
OBD II Scanner?
Has anyone used an OBD II Scanner on their truck? Not the one that just lets you see CEL codes but the one that actually lets you see live data? (Innova OBDII 3130)

to be specific. Just curious if it can tell you your egts, boost pressure, and fuel pressure. I was thinking of getting one but if it doesn't give that much info then I might as well get the cheap one that only gives you CEL codes.

Check out Actron for hand held scanners. I have the 9145 and it works pretty well. Since my truck has no emmissions sensors, the data monitoring is pretty limited. I think some of the new ones are download upgradeable and have charts.
You can find a lot of laptop scan/data programs if you google OBD II and laptop.

Be careful when purchasing an OBDII scanner/software. I have an older model Auterra (uses a Palm device) and attached it to the Dodge, would not connect. Put in an email to Auterra, and they responded that the older model would not work on OBDII/CAN vehicles and also that the new release was not guaranteed to work on Dodge diesels.
The old version has all the neat parameter displays from the vehicle's computer. Go to their website www.auterra.com and download their demo software. I'm going to get the newer version because I use it for fun on other vehicles.

I got the Actron CP9135 just for checking codes, it works fine on my 06. Spring & fall seem to get Battery & temperature rational codes for me. I was wondering if the more expensive one could check more engine stuff. Good question coparam4x4, I'm waiting to see if anyone else has tried it.
I actually have the "autotap" software for my laptop. www.autotap.com
That Autotap looks good. Does the basic unit give you enough information or do you need the upgrade. It would be nice to see more information than just codes. Is it really usefull or just cool to see all the information. (keep in mind I have tools around just because of the cool factor

I use a $400 laptop with the autoenginuity scanner adapter and software ($260). http://www.autoenginuity.com/
Its easy to connect up and use via a USB port on the laptop with provided 6 foot cable to the OBD connector. There is also a wireless Blue tooth option. You can drive around with it connected if you want. I used it often for reading sensor information in the Neon and Dakota, but only connected it once to read and reset a CTD check engine code. You can do baseline sensor measurement scans for several vehicles and save them for future comparisons. There are a bunch of other features I don't use or understand. I really haven't toyed with it much on the CTD, but it does read and reset codes in the 2006 computer.
Can't comment on how much help these readers really are for diagnosing or anticipating problems as I think you need to have some understanding of auto sensors and what they are realy teling you, but this one does work well for me.
The basic module reads all the codes and sensors provided by OBD. Enhanced module ($160) provides transmission sensors, ABS module, a bunch of things. The enhanced system also supports the diesel Cummins engines. Here's the list of sensors the enhance system can monitor:

I never used the speed tracker product included free, which is suppose to give you HP and Tourque measurements.

it will read any and every sensor on your truck!!!! and for a good price too!!
I hosted a group buy on this tool in the Mazda forum I am a member of and we picked the tool up for $170.00 plus shipping
I wish we could do group buys on DTR!!!
then we could do a new group buy with the dodge expansion software witch I need.BTW I used the SPEEDTRACER on my Mazda and got pretty accurate dyno reading's it kind of surprised me most stuff like that never works.
